Now I wish I had played Ultima. I think I've got Ultima 9 stuffed in the desk somewhere unopened. *goes rummaging thru desk*

Oh, question first, do I need to start from the beginning of the Ultima series or will I be able to pick up on how to play pretty quickly if I start with 9?

The gargoyle race was a key part of Ultima history. Much of Ultima VI was based on them.

I'd love the ability to play either a gargoyle or an ophidian, providing they use the good, original art and don't introduce something like..I don't know.."new" versions of them.

Huzzah. I'm very interested to see what the developers have in store.

Ultima VII and Ultima VII:2 are the best. Those are the games that originally got me into Ultima Online in the first place. Unfortunately, they are a veritable pain to play on a modern computer without getting some emulator like Exult.

Absolute best way to play the classics is to just build an older system. I have a very base model 486 I keep just for that sole purpose.

Ultima 9 was very very very very very very very very buggy and very very very very poorly done and very very very very rushed!

Go threw 1-8, THEN do 9.

Hell, I'd recommend Ultima IX (Ascension) to someone before I'd ever recommend Ultima VIII (Pagan). Pagan was all right and fun and all but..egh...

The Virtues really begin with Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. The Ultimas leading up to that serve as a general setting of the stage if you will. Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny is great for anyone who is big into Blackthorn and the Shadowlords (this is how Blackthorn SHOULD have been corrupted in UO)...

They're all very much worth playing. Anyone who is also into earlier FPS games should check out Ultima Underworld and Underworld II (sort of Doom crossed with Ultima).

BTW, since we were talking about Ultima IX.....
