To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

Seems Wilki's reply about the guild Hax has touched a few sore points as the following comments clearly show.

Comment

Quote:
[i]Please note the bolded statements. In the Ultima Online License Agreement, it states that a banned player may not return to the game using a newly-created account at any time for any reason. Don't believe me? Read rule number nine (9) on this site: [url=http://www.uo.com/agreement.html. For the lazy, here is the exact quote of rule number nine (9) (I have bolded the portion that EA apparently doesn't understand):[/I]

9. Termination.
Either you or Origin Systems may terminate your Account at any time without further obligation to the other. Further, Origin Systems reserves the right to terminate the Service at any time without further obligation to you. IF THE SERVICE OR YOUR ACCOUNT IS TERMINATED OR CANCELLED AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING: (1) YOU WILL NOT BE ENTITLED TO ANY REFUND OR PRORATION OF ANY FEES OR UNUSED ACCESS TIME; (2) YOU WILL LOSE ANY CHARACTERS DEVELOPED OR ITEMS ACCUMULATED AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TRANSFER, SELL OR ASSIGN ANY CHARACTERS OR ITEMS TO ANYONE ELSE; (3) YOU MAY NOT ACCESS THE SERVICE IN ANY MANNER OR FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING VIA ANY OTHER ACCOUNT. IN THE EVENT THAT AN ACCOUNT IS TERMINATED, ORIGIN SYSTEMS MAY TERMINATE ANY AND ALL OTHER ACCOUNTS THAT SHARE THE MEMBER NAME, PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS, INTERNET PROTOCOL ADDRESS OR CREDIT CARD NUMBER WITH THE TERMINATED ACCOUNT.

Now for you, Wilki. You said that you don't want any cheaters playing the game. "Period." Why, then, do the account executives at Electronic Arts allow the members of [HaX] to return on new accounts? If you don't like cheaters playing, remove them from the game. You also said "Yeah, sure they exploit." According to Electronic Arts and their policies, exploiting the game in a manner which was not intended for normal gameplay is considered cheating. Next, you stated that [HaX] ran around "showing the world they are a bunch of racist morons." The last time I checked, racism of any sort was not allowed in Ultima Online. Why would you say that members of [HaX] were "racist morons" if they never were racist in-game? Obviously they were at some point, and yet again we break another Term of Service. You say they duped, and that you took a vast majority of the stuff away. Why not remove all of it? It is possible to locate any item that was duped and I know that for a fact. It doesn't help the Ultima Online community to remove only a 'vast majority' of duped items.

Sure you deleted 15 trillion gold, but why not remove the hackers and exploiters that keep coming back? Remove them for good. Ban their IP addresses. Get rid of them. Before we know it, this game will start going downhill. Oh, wait.. It already has been for the last four years.

If Electronic Arts is "closely watching" the members of HaX, knowing they have exploited the game thousands of times in the past, why the hell don't you ban them once and for all? Is it because banning all of those accounts would cut the revenue made by Ultima Online in half? It all boils down to money, huh? Sick.

After several further replies an aswer came from

Wilki

Ya know, if you're going to ask a question, and then answer it yourself with a snide remark, that pretty much tells me that you're just ranting rather than seeking information.

Let me say this: If the day comes that someone tells me we're not going to ban a group of players that should be banned, because we value that small bit of revenue more than the integrity of the service, that'll be my last day doing this (along with a lot of other people as well).

[Ill be keeping an eye on the thread to bring any further developments ...Tabbitha]

Re: To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

This upsets me.. because I don't understand the point of this argument.

What the heck is this player talking about? Isn't Wilki, and the entire dev team for that matter, on our side trying to get rid of cheaters? They've removed gold and accounts from the game (the first time) and said they had big plans in the works. Then they removed the 15 trillion and more accounts and are telling us there's more to come. Now PunkBuster is coming and this guy thinks that EA is trying to squeeze more pennies by letting cheaters play the game?

Is it just that hard for some people to figure out that the dev team is indeed making moves to clean up the game? I just don't get it.

Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away,
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why,
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire.

Soooo HAX makes up half of the accounts in UO? Wow!! I never would have imagined that a guild would make up of over thousands of members. I love those mindless rants.. Wilki never ceases to amaze me. He just keeps coming back making these people look stupider and stupider with every post. Keep it up man!

You know, it blows my mind how some people can take things that they know absolutely nothing about, state it out in ways that make it seem simple, and then complain about it...

Lets say I got banned from UO. How much time do you think it would take me to get another account going? No we can come tot he money aspect...very little time but a sizable investment.

With the advent of PB, and the possibility of hardware banning, now the banned person may have to get nearly an entire new machine to get an acount up and running again, increasing the size of the investment to get back in...

There are programs out ther that will mask your hardware id from punkbuster. I would post the ones i have un covered but i fear violating the forum rules. The one thing they should do more of is banning by IP, they used to but stopped the practice, i know that with the use of proxies this wouldn't catch them all, but i just hate having Golrath living next door to me.

Re: To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

Whoever that was ranting has no idea what he is talking about. It is impossible to insure that if you ban someone today, they won't be back tomorrow. Even if you say "You are Perma-Banned" there is NO POSSIBLE way to keep that person out if they choose to get back in the game.

Also, getting rid of 100% of the duped items seems like an easy answer, but when XXXX amount of honest players acquired duped items without any knowledge to them, how do you explain that your HOM was duped, sorry we deleted it, here's a nice floppy hat!

Re: To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

Banning IP Addresses isn't a permanent solution, it would be more effective banning the credit card and billing information associated with the account. Banning not only in UO, but in all EA online Games. If they hack, dupe and cheat in UO, I guarantee they do the same in all other games they play.

The problem lies in that they did nothing about the duped robes; they claim these items will be altered in a later publish, I think when a company says duping is wrong suping should be wrong, yet they seem to pick and choose which items they take seriously. The sellers of the duped robes racked in untold riches, and the buyers (who should have known better) will be left with a common item.

Re: To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

I am sure that the Devs are waiting on someone to give them the go ahead to change the duped items to something or to anything. As with any company with a rank and organization structure they will have to present their proposed action to a board or department for approval. That Department or Board will want to see graphs, charts, and reports on how this action will affect the customers, and the servers. The Devs deal with alot of Legacy Code, and I know that is not fun.

Re: To Wilki: Regarding your post about HaX

I see it mentioned about banning IP's.

The problem is a vast majority of ISP's don't give out static IP Address's. So if they star banning IP's in UO then innocent people could be denied access to the game it they happen to get allocated the said IP address when they connect.
