The time is come upon us...who will help the evil and who will stay on the side of go

source taken from UO U.Hall

Linked to this news this thread over on Stratics explains exactly what blackrock has what 'value' etc.

Hrm... Which begs the question about the smaller fragments. The ones that came from the original moongate and then were availible to be picked up off the ground. These are the rarest of them all. they were only availible for a short time. Will these traders recognize the difference and will they qualify for the Higher rewards like the other more rare blackrock stones? *wonders what the rarer rewards for turning in are*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draconi_EA UO Designer
Master of Disaster
Original: Highest reward, as the most rare and pure of the current forms directly from the Blackrock Pillar
Mined: Middle ground, these are found in very small quantities in Sosarian mines
Large pieces: The "Mother Lodes" yielded the most common and impure, they fetch the least reward.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

well considering I lost all 5 pieces of the original blackrock I had cus I died with them on my corpse......I only have the smalls and larges...I was actually going to go turn in one of each to see what I get but I can't find any mysterious traders yet...*sighs*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draconi_EA UO Designer
Master of Disaster
I just saw them wandering around Haven. It seems there are a few, but they travel far apart and often off the beaten path.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well.....I'd LOVE to see what an original piece gets ya! Check this out..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Did two more...got a ring of the vile and a valorite runic hammer....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a feeling the prices on a lot of things will drop soon. I really dont think this is a good idea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The jaw on the shocked smiley emote can't drop far enough. :shocked:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please take my shard down and publish right now. Thanks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Go Team Evil!!!

You know, normally I'd be complaining about this sort of thing what with flooding the shards with high end equipment (that I'm sure aren't illusions that will magically dissappear later on, because some of the rewards are runic hammers, which will be consumed to make items), but I think by now I'm too exhausted to care. *gets blackrock pieces ready*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Absoloutely, I stand to lose a significant amount of gold due to item investments, but I don't care.
Having all players able to obtain top quality items like this is far too valuable to get caught up in personal loss about. Prices will plummet on these high end items, and that's a good thing. Especially if, as we all hope, next month we see a mass migration of new players who won't be put off by the idea of killing 10 billion orcs to get a new hat.
It also addresses the mass item stashes still around from the past duper ban, a lot don't exist anymore, but there are still thousands of these items stashed all over the place, all obtained by illegal methods and owned by a small group of players. They stand to be completey devalued and put into the hands of the honest player.
I'm sure the reasons behind this decision relates to these thoughts, either that, or it's all one giant hideous mistake and Origin is about to be reverted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

WOW...talk about rocking ze boat, eh ,?

This is going to be one HUGE biggie,for those of us who have never managed to get any arties of any vlaue !!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
great rewards from what *appear* to be evil persons.... is noone concerned about this? and why aren't the mages in Moonglow up in arms? sweating away over a blackrock locator when all they really have to do is travel to Haven....
I wonder.. what will be the rewards for NOT handing it over to the dark-robed traders?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay....for everyone who hasn't gotten this yet....(ALL shards but Origin obviously) I turned in all 23 pieces of blackrock that I had...yes you heard me correctly....my precious blackrock is ALL GONE! *sniffle*

This is a list of what I recieved.....large pieces and the small minable ones/ones we found on the ground.

Agapite Hammer x3
Valorite Hammer
Verite Hammer
Zyronic Claw
Ring of the Vile
+30 ASH
+60 ASH
One of the new Major Tokuno Dyes
Daimyo's Helm x3
Sword of the Stampede
Gloves of the Sun x2
Stormgrips x2
Darkened Sky
Tome of Enlightenment
Hanzo's Bow
10 Ecru Citrine
10 Blight

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question. Can these smaller pieces of blackrock be duped and if so will duped smaller pieces also be given the best rewards?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You are my favourite poster today. That's an awesome question.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*jaw hits the floor*
I ... I ... wow.
I very nearly threw out my small collection of mined small pieces - was trying to figure out how to "rid the world" of them. Now I have a chance to get rid of them and be rewarded in ways I could never have imagined ... but in doing so I fear I would be aiding an upcoming cataclysm, or that the rewards would turn out to be tainted or, upon closer investigation, turn out to be cheep plastic imitations.
*sits stunned, at a complete loss as to what I'm going to do*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Has everyone forgotten its the Shadowlords we are facing? Such as Faulinei the Shadowlord of Falsehood. Could be these items are not what the look like? Maybe we should hold on to the Blackrocks we have and see what good has to offer us later?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A very valid point,and having not cast the Armageddon spell [ yet] myself,I shant be handing over any of my blackrock just yet either.
I am interested to see what will happen first.
One thing for sure ,this has produced a flurry of fervour,and I will only be posting Dev's responses from here on as the thread reached 11 pages in a single day already [ unless I see some thing very relevant ]
Re: The time is come upon us...who will help the evil and who will stay on the side o
I am about to turn in 10 "A Small Piece of Blackrock" and 18 "A Large Piece of Blackrock" ranging from 5 stones to 25 stones in weight. Don't know if weight is a factor or not.
I was wondering if you were wearing a luck suit while turning in? Does luck factor in?
These guys are pretty focused: they don't talk, they don't deal, they don't bargain. I really don't think any amount of luck would help you deal with merchants like these.
They only speak the language of gold. Black(rock) gold.
Re: The time is come upon us...who will help the evil and who will stay on the side o
of all the stupid things to happen in uo, this is by far the worst.... i've played over 6 years have hundreds of mils, my suits on each of my chars are worth over 100 mil each.... this is going to seriously screw me over and hundreds of other players, i'm sure many people feel the same way as me and think this is very unfair to just deploy this without warning or anything... they need to take a vote from all players not just do something without asking
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As much as we love and worship our old rich vets on UO, for every one who suffers minor pain and discomfort due to this happy influx of riches for "the rest of us" we hope to gain 10000 happy newbs. Seems anyone can mine up blackrock, no mining skill required for the large pieces, and Draconi seems to be mistaken that large pieces get crappy rewards since posters are saying they are getting Doom arties for large pieces. So I have changed my mind about how exciting this was/is (it is!) and am looking forward to turning in my large pieces tommorrow.

If it levels the pvp playing field in Fel and takes away some of the profits from the arty dupers, then it's all good. Hopefully the filthy rich vets will consider that by making the game more fun for everyone that even though they may lose a bit in item value they will game a new and improved game (new subscribers, new pvpers) that has the potential to last for years to come. It couldn't possibly be much fun to have everything you want in UO but be the only guy left on the shard to see it
.

Lemme clarify this real quick: older pieces of blackrock use a variety of art types hued black, mainly gems. They range from small to "large" in size, but as long as they're from the original pillar you'll receive a much better reward than the others. There's *some* overlap, but the rarest blackrock is pretty darn rare.

Now, the "Large" pieces that I mention are the ones that have varying weight and look like the rocks. Those are the least pure and least rewarding.

Are you trying to depress me on purpose?

I'm not evil!

Just trying to point out that the "large" you may be referring to probably aren't the Mother Lode variety. I could be wrong though, which post was it?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Beleive there were 3...or...4...not sure..different graphics for the small ones...
The small ROUND one and the small OVALISH one are the ones I got runic hammers off of.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To actual contribute something other than sarcasm, could someone on Origin please check that these can be handed in at both Haven and Occlo (the fel version of haven) on production shards?

Oh noes! Quick Draconi! Run for the hills

*hands draconi a flame suit*

I'll hold them off for ya!

Thanks phantus!

It's one of those non-spoilers that people should know; flameworthy, but I hope understandable. You can move around freely on Siege, but on other shards you can have more than one character handling your business.

*whistles innocently and walks away*

Oh wait! And to the previous posters concerned about Large pieces of blackrock - don't take my words as "Oh it must work this way then and that's that." Both the "small" and "large" pieces are available right now on all shards, and "small" pieces will continue to be available even after the publish.

*runs away*

Funny how if someone wears a black robe people automatically assume they must be up to no good. That's about as smart as saying if you're an american you must be fat.

Sure, in this case other factors make it all look suspicious too (giving out absurdly valuable things for blackrock, ergo they REALLY want to get it all), I just always find it amusing how black=evil. Hits close to home since IRL us metalheads face that sort of attitude often :grin:

Kinda poo that I haven't had time to play much lately, meaning I've missed most of the blackrock event stuff. Only picked up two little pieces on the ground I think. So it's off to mine tomorrow!

Re: The time is come upon us...who will help the evil and who will stay on the side o

In case anyone was wondering about blackrock being turned off.I pulled this from the linked thread on Stratics

Right now you can still mine up at the motherlode areas in the lost lands and on Wyvern Isle.....there is a small chance to mine up a small piece while mining ore.

Once the publish goes live on the rest of the shards, the motherlode mining will be turned off....so it's up to you....mine the rock and turn it in for shiny baubles and perhaps give the enemy all of the blackrock in doing so....OR...keeping it for yourself and out of the hands of evil....hard choices are upon us.....

*strokes blackrock* Mine....my precious......*grins evily*
