Targetting System Q&A

This info taken from UO Stratics:

Player: I was reading a thread on UHall and I saw an image in which was a much more interesting HUD then the brackets being used now for Ultima Online. Please have a look at this and tell me why couldn't a HUD like this could not have been used instead? I mean would you not agree this HUD is alot more appealing then the one being proposed by Electronic Arts? Just curious. Anyhow, the thread on UHall in which I found this image in can be found over at :

The HUD image I think in which looks better then the brackets is shown below

Ando: I don't have all the answers for you, but from what I understand it would be much more difficult to implement a splat similar to the one shown here in UO's 2D client. So had we tried to do this, there might be issues displaying it in situations such as when the target is going up stairs.

The art team and engineering has been working on how they can improve the look of the targeting reticle. Once they give the go ahead, I will try to have new screenshots posted for everyone to see.
Player: So with this, are you guys going back to getting rid of the auto defend for archers/dexxers like you talked about a few publishes back?

Doesn't seem to be a need to auto-defend anymore. They can target just like everyone else now with this new interface.

Ando: I don't think we'll be getting rid of auto-defend in Pub40, but one thing I believe the Dev team is considering is just making auto-defend not kick in when you've got something already targeted.
Player: With the addition of the "CurrentTarget" macro, will the existing macro "LastTarget" be retained?
Ando: The existing LastTarget macro is not going away.
Player: AutoCastSpellTarget=1: If I have this turned on, how do I target myself and/or the ground.
Ando: If you are using this option, you would target yourself first, and cast your spell second (sort of the reverse order of how targeting currently works).
Player: How do I cancel the current selection, so that nothing is selected?
Ando: Hitting the escape key will clear your current target selection
Player: What if we have a macro already tied to the Escape key?
Ando: I will bring up this concern, however I'm not sure this will change since the escape key is a common key used to cancel.

I know its technically accurate.. but I really wish there was an alternative for the word "recticle".. it just sounds naughty.

Try "reticule." (I say READY-cool) It means the same thing (as well as some kind of handbag oddly) and doesnt sound nearly as vulgar...
