| Scrolls ofAlacrity problem identified...possibly.
Congrats to one of our very own members for starting a 3 page thread over on Stratics *winks*

UO U.Hall So, I ate a Scroll of Alacrity for Snooping and I havent had a single gain over .1.
I was standing in Fel Trinsic where I used it and stayed right there to train. I got the message about "feeling acclerated" and got the powerscroll animaiton when I used it...
Did the New Haven area bust these things?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nope. Used one today at a very low stealth. 40 is where I started and ended up at 60. Got many .5's and .4's. They aren't as useful as many think they are. They are good for the lower level but gm and above they lack the power people seem to expect from them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OP Huh.
I ate the thing and got alot of gains (started at about 60 finished at about 67.5) in the 15 minute window, but every single gain was .1 I was wearing a Burglars Bandanna when I used it...does have a skill bump item on efect it somehow?
I have to say that Im a bit bummed. The thing only cost me like 15k but I had such high hopes of big gains..
Has anyone else ued a Snoop Alacrity scroll and had it work??
I agree with the other poster too that there should be a confirmation gump like with power/stat scrolls..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They really aren't worth anything. If you spent the time getting one from the red monsters just training normally you'd gain more; if you spent the time you did on collecting the money to buy them you'd probably gain more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am unfamiliar with this item...
what is it??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OP There are three shrines in fel and tram that have a bunch of spawn with red names as part of a few new quests. You have a chance to get a scroll of Alacrity killing these red monsters.
A Scroll of Alacrity *should* work similar to the Motherlode event wherein, when you are training a skill and get a gain, that gain hould be at least .2 no higher than .5 thogh at a suffeciently low level (under 25 maybe) you can get gains over a full point...at least I did with the Motherlode gaining. The other portion of the Scrolls is that they are skill-specific.
And to the other poster, Snooping can be a bit sketchy under 100 and if a person would get more by doing another method, why would they not eat the scroll and then perform the method that you think would yield higher results?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ were you by any chance hidden, when you used the scroll?
I was hidden with my blacksmith today...used a scroll (got text/animation) and gains too, but all of them were 0.1 gains :/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OP
GAH! I WAS! I wasnt hidden while training though...at least not for very much of it at all...
Can we get a weigh in on this? Should being hidden effect the use of the Scrolls?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I may be wrong...but I'm guessing it's by design.
For a skill like snooping, you can attempt it every second or so...hence you have lots of chance of gaining...which is why they only give you a gain of 0.1 per.
For skills that can only be used once every 10 seconds or so (taming, hiding...), it makes sense that you get the 0.5 gain, as you can only attempt the skill that many time within 15 minutes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't think its a problem per SKILL, I think its a problem per CHARACTER. I had one of my characters on LS gain only .1 at a time in both Inscription and Magery on the Haven skill quests training in the appropriate areas, and had someone tell me they were gaining as they should at the same time.
Therefore, there must be a way for your character to become bugged to not recieve the proper gains (Haven uses the same coding in its quests as the Alacrity scrolls), and I don't know if there's a way to unbug yourself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OP *bows to Crysta*
Stoned Snooping over to a placeholder, ate the scroll, and finally got my "infused" gains!
Another thing I noticed is that when I had used them on the other char, when I gained, I did not get the "infused" message.
Can we get a higher up to say that they read this? Hopefully start peeking for a problem?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looking into this now. Patrick "Leurocian" Malott
AND THEN Found the problem. It's a problem with skills that can be done rapid fire in 1 second intervals like crafting, snooping, musicianship, etc.
We have an internal timer on the scroll effect. I had to tweak that number.
I have a fix for this for QA to begin testing. Not sure when this will get in. We have a publish coming out soon that's already feature/fix complete. So the publish after this upcoming one is when this fix will most likely go in. Thank you SO much.
You bet. Sorry you all encountered that problem. So can you drop a hint when this patch will get published? So we can save the scrolls till they work correctly? Not asking for a firm date. Something vague like say "It might be ready in 3 weeks, no promises" It might be ready in 2-3 weeks, no promises Leurocian,
Is it possible to have them put a safety gump in that asks if you are sure you won't to use the scroll? I used one the other day for cartography and was shocked when I clicked on it and *bam* it was used. If I would have accidently clicked on it, it would have been gone for good, and I would have wasted it.
Yes. I received that suggestion from QA today. So next week, I'll work on a gump for them. OP I thank you for your prompt investigation!
I do have to ask tho if the fact that when I changed chars (used soulstone to move Snooping to a different character) and then recieved the benefits of the same type of scroll (snooping) on the new char means anything more than just the timer issue...
Any thoughts? I confess that I dont know enough to be able to tell if they are one in the same... Most likely, coincidental. I definitely seen the issue though with skills that can be used very quickly (i.e., 1 second delay).
GJ Kettle!
Now, ummm, did anyone notice that QA actually suggested something before we (the players) :shocked: did? Is this a first?
I'm having this problem with only gaining .1, even after the immediate use of an Animal Taming alacrity scroll on Legends shard. Has this been known to affect Animal Taming? If so, is there some update as to when there will be a fix?
Sorry if this is a repetitive post. Thanks! EDIT - I just reread that whole post all the way to the bottom and realized that my problem with Animal Taming could have been caused by a similar soulstone transgression: Quote: I thank you for your prompt investigation!
Any thoughts? I confess that I dont know enough to be able to tell if they are one in the same... | What happened to me was that I used a soulstone to remove many unwanted skills from a previously worked tamer, to reduce my GGS timer. All I had left on the character (which already had taming) was Taming, Lore, and 50 magery. For a long time, it worked like a charm... I used the first alacrity scroll with no trouble. Every GGS gain off a bull was over .2. The scroll lasted over a week of logging out and in, recalling between an inn and bulls. Then, that one wore off, and I tried to use another one... the GGS gain came... but it was only .1. I waited for the next one, again only .1. I thought I might have used the wrong alacrity scroll, so I waited out the 15 minute timer in-game and re-used another Taming alacrity scroll. Again, my GGS gain was only .1, having just used the alacrity scroll. I paged a GM and they sent me to this thread in the support knowledge database: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg...hp?p_faqid=441
I laughed, cried... and found this forum site. I hope someone has some idea what's going on... I thought this was an excellent way to raise taming over 100 with a busy real life schedule and it was working great... HELP!
I hope someone has a little more info than that! UPDATE - Since I wasn't getting any help from the Game Master staff, I took it upon myself to un-@#$^ my animal taming by transferring the skill to a completely new character after I allowed the second Taming alacrity scroll to wear off. A very strange thing happened. Once I had the taming to another character and had him all geared up, ready to recall to and from bulls and an inn, I used another Taming alacrity scroll just before attempting what would be my first gain on the new character. Mind you, I wasn't sure if the GGS gain would happen immediately or not... but I figured I'd try anyway. Upon succeeding on a bull, I received no skill gain. Thus, I recalled to the inn and set up my clock to wait for the GGS timer. Eight hours later, I logged in and recalled to the bulls. I failed my first two taming attempts on a bull. However, upon succeeding my GGS gain came. At the same moment the GGS gain came, the alacrity scroll I had previously eaten on this new character appeared to be eaten again, as it gave me a message that I've been infused with energy from the scroll. The gain was for .3 and the situation where I've only been gaining .1 for GGS, even with alacrity active, seems to have resolved itself.
Now I just have to buy another 120 taming scroll and a few more alacrity scrolls...
*carry the two...*
This bug has only cost me around 10 million so far. o_O
