SCAM ALERT from EA !!!

While we cannot say for certain the problems are connected to this website, we can say with certainty that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

We strongly suggest that you do not reuse your UO account name and/or password anywhere - particularly not at a UO-related site. If you have recently typed in that information during a visit to a website offering free Ultima Online gold or items, we beg you to change your password immediately.

If you need to change your game password, log in to "Account Management" from the main UO site. Be very, very wary if someone offers you something for nothing.

Click here to visit the Account Management page

WOW...umm I'd like to ask one question.
Why would anyone enter thier Account name & PW in anything but the UO login screen? It's just....beyond me.
Amazing!

AYE ... NEVER reuse your UO account name and/or password anywhere outisde the loging into game and using the UO's Account Management (secured) site.

Not doing so is the best security defense in protecting your account information.

Holy, Cow. On October 28, 2006 I got an ICQ from one of the RP'ers on LS that said:

Quote:
Ok, i am not a very trusting person but had several minutes to kill the otherday so i checked outt his site :
[Web site deleted for this post]
did not think much would happen mainly registered and did a few surveys just for fun. several minutes turned into alot longer. ended up supposedly earning 5mil in gold. a couple of days later i get an icq from a guy named ****. he meets me in skare with 5-1mil checks says ty and encourages me to do more. so i have, I have earned a total of 12mil and have been payed 12 mill in uo gold. no scam just getting paid uo gold to do surveys and such. just wanted to share to theose i know ingame about it
I certainly did not go to the web site since I'm not stupid. But I also didn't think twice about it since the guy who sent me the link is someone who I've seen tries to help the community and crafts gold armor for other people and does stuff in generous ways.

I guess I witnessed with that ICQ someone falling for a trap. I hope he and the people he sent the ICQ didn't lose anything. That's really a shame.

I wish I knew whether the guy who sent the ICQ sent it earnestly doing what he thought was a good deed, or if he was in on it. I will never know since I didn't take the link.

Re: SCAM ALERT from EA !!!

I acually saw these books all over Cats advertising this site. I took one look and figured it was some kind of scam, but I wouldnt have thought that anything like this would happen...

And as the revious posters pointed out; who would use their UO usename and password anywhere else, nevermind on a UO related site?

Thank god they're making people more aware of this. It's been going on for a while now, and it's a horrible thing.

Re: SCAM ALERT from EA !!!

He appears to have shut the site down

Quote:
It appears that this site has been "suspected" of attempting to harvest UO players' account information. That could not be further from the truth, however. Since opening, the registration page has said this:
Notice the blue lettering.
Unfortunately, my accounts have been closed. I have no means of functioning in the game, and it is against their RoC for me to return. Hence, unless something changes in the situation, the site will be suspended.
As clarified multiple times on our public forum and in ICQ, the gold was collected through the commissions I earned from completed surveys, memberships, etc. This is how I purchased the gold. Period. If you want to learn more Google 'rewards programs' and you'll learn more about how this is applied to other areas: gift cards, phone cards, all sorts of rewards.
Thank you to all of you for the good conversations many of us have had over this time.
