Just a question on the Double Standard. Not ment as an Insult. Considering that EA has aquired Mythic. How can the sell of Virtual Goods be alloweed in one game, & not in the other?

As I understand it Mythic doese not allow the sell of Virtual Goods for DAoC. & EA allows the sale of Virtual Goods for UO. Will the Standard for both games be changed to allow the sell? or not allow the sell of Virtual Goods in both games? or will it be left how it is now? Is this Standard going to be reviewed in the Future?

Ive posted before about ebay. Ive bought and sold on there.

Best explanation I got from a friend that used to play. He said he works 60 hours a week and UO is away to relax. He said hed rather buy stuff he needs then spent hours trying to get it.


I think if cheats and exploits are fixed. People should be able to do as they wish.

No one should have advantages via cheats.

I like ebay because everyone has access.

Im sure there are a thousand ways to sell gold and items without ebay.


In saying that when the integrity of the game is fixed. And thanks all, it seems like it is moving in the right direction, thats when the real money virtual item thing should be addressed. If the do address it, I just hope we dont end up with the NO DROP NO TRANSFER ITEMS thing.

Nothing worse the spreading efforts in to many directions.

This is a good thing thats happening.

While I in no way advocate the use of ebay in UO don't you think you are jumping the gun a bit? They just started talking to us(and doing a FANTASTIC job of it) and you are already acusing them of a double standard? Seriously, give them some time. Also, try to keep in mind that Mythic is over UO developement and whatnot now but EA makes the rules.

[i] WOW< SWG and others have banned the selling...if they catch you, your toast.

Does that stop people? No. check out Ebay, check out broker sites.

EA never had anything against selling of stuff on ebay, you just coulndt advertise it in game. Mythic had different. just because mythic was acquired by EA doesnt mean EA has to change what it allows on its game, or vice versa either. [i]

If you do a search on ebay for "valorite hammer" and you will see that there are still 21 listed. (17 by the same person)

This same person has around 200 ebays from gold to duped items and has yet to bring any down like the others did.

Now i know they got some of this persons houses/items but it appears not all?

With this person being one of the biggest dupers mabye someone from EA should do a sting and elminate this person and there duped goods?

Of course it's possible that she didn't take them down yet..

But people are buying them by the hour. Don't you think this person would remove them rather then have to refund a ton of people(who will probably leave negative feedbacks) and still would be forced to pay the ebay fees.

Unless this person is just giving up.

Disallowing the sale of items for real life money does nothing to prevent it from happening. It happens en mass in every game it is disallowed in and is not a magic fix for the economy.

That's not true. While it may not stop virtual sales completely, it would result in less sales. The honest players, who purchase virtual goods now because it's allowed would stop, and therefore it would have at least some positive effect in the economy.

Less sales for sure, but it wouldn't rule it out completely

Problem is, anyone can setup a trade site and let people sell stuff for RL$

But the people who affect the economy, the cheaters and power sellers, won't stop. Your average joe has not effect on the economy at all and stopping him from buying items for real cash won't fix the economy. If anything it puts the average person at a disadvantage.

Well, it's true that there is absolutely no way to stop it completely. The real question is, is the benefit derived from enforcing a no-ebay type rule worth the resources needed to enforce it?

It is against uo tos to sell items for rl$. They will get around to enforcing it eventually, they always do.

It's not against the UO TOS to sell stuff for RL cash, least, not that I can see.

Well since the last sting for money I noticed a lot of ebay listings disappear and broker sites set their UO portions down. They say they are waiting to determine the price of gold in UO. Interesting developments and this just make s me think that those stings that are done are having more of an effect than people thought.

I couldn't find an answer to my question on any websites or forums so I simply paged a gm in-game. Honestly I expected to see a message directing me back to the site I had just come from but low and behold, I got a chat request!

GM Wolf and I had a chat and according to his sources, the sale of UO items for real life dollars IS illegal. They just don't have the resources to crack down on ebay sales atm.
