Pure Mage Useless?

Is the pure mage useless now? i havent played in years and my first character ever is...

GM Magery
GM Med
GM Tactics
GM Wrestling
GM Evaul Intel
Master Inscribe
Master Resist Spell

now it seems like Macers and Dexters are too powerful for any mage to compete if i were to decide to 120 all those skills (except Tactics) would i just be wasting my time?

I guess if you are a solo pvper, it is not ideal.
If you are pvping with a guild there are several ways you are an asset.

I pvm my mage and am still really effective. Not all creatures submit to the mage, as some are too hard (as it should be)

I'd suggest dropping tactics, inscribe and wrestling.

Get parry and a wep skill, because it will greatly increase your defence and offense. Parry is just a must these days and a good wep with lightning or fireball will do a nice job in battle fizzling other mages, not to metion the endless specials available.

Pure mage in the field is chowder. You have to run with a group to do well. 120 wrestle and 120 parry will help you alot, but the scribe, unless you duel other mages alot, is worthless...IMO

Mages are far from gone -

I've watched way too many kicking back on a log, smoking their pipes while their EVs and Bladespells rip the crapola outta a spawn point to call them useless. Meanwhile i'm all bloody and battered going toe to toe with something.

Of course they'll be better off when paired with a tamer - or someone who specializes in being a meat shield or something.

*Watches the wizard grin and wave at me - fiddling with the tobacco in his pipe some more as i stand there dripping with blood looking at my bent Valorite Katana.
