Problems Loading UO
Player: Okay, I had the same problem with the beta, and since it was the beta, I figured it was okay. Nothing to be worried about. What happens is that I keep getting a window popup telling me that I don't have enough memory to play the game. Here's what it says exactly:
There is not enough memory to continue the execution. If you do not have virtual memory enabled, this could be the problem. Otherwise, you may be low on disk space, or may need to increase the amount of space allocated to virtual memory. So there ya go. At first glance you'd think the problem was simple. But let me go on. My (C) drive properties (I'm not sure I am reading this properly) is telling me that I have up to 13.9 GB of space to use. Of that 13.9, I am currently using 3.92 GB, which leaves approx. 10.0 GB of space to use. So if I have 10.0 GB of memory to use, then why must I be constantly shutting down programs just to get my regular UO to work now?! HELP! Ando: I was able to reproduce this issue this evening on a Windows 98 machine. It required that I run multiple background programs until I was at about 60% free resources (which even at that point for win98 means the system may already be chugging). I was only able to reproduce this using the 3D client. When I increased my virtual memory settings, this problem went away (or at least I was able to get the system down to 50% free resources without ever seeing the message).

Re: Problems Loading UO
I posted on the Tech Forum about this. Anyone having this issue with either client could try a websearch for a program called RamBooster. Its a handy little backround app that dumps RAM at certain usage levels, or when told to do so.
In addition, it seems that this issue is relegated to Windows 98 and/or Windows 98SE. Please head over to the Stratics Tech Forum if you have any further info on this. Tnx! |
