Origin Publish Partial Revert

from UO U.Hall

Two of the changes published last night will NOT be published to any other shard, and will be removed from Origin (see the Publish Announcement here). Wanna guess which two?

We put in a fix last night that was supposed to prevent people from placing a multi-tiled item over raised single tiled items and then lowering the single tiled items, breaking the multi-tiled item. This fix prevents players from raising or lowering one item through another, but does not otherwise affect decoration.

However, we have a situation. As you know, item placement is more of an art than a science in Ultima Online, and there is a significant concern that this change will affect more than just the specific situation we intended. In order to more fully test it with all the wacky stuff house decorators are fond of doing, we are going to remove the fix for the moment. It will later be placed it on the Test Center (Watch for announcements!). We would very much appreciate you all taking the time to check out this fix as soon as we get it up on TC, and help us determine the extent of the effects of this change on house decoration in general.

Note that this means the bug is NOT fixed. If you have a multi-tiled item (such as a bed) sitting on top of raised single-tiled items (such as goza mats) do NOT attempt to lower the single tiled items. If you do, and discover your multi-tiled item is broken, do NOT attempt to redeed the item or you will lose it. Instead, page a GM to fix it.

The other fix that is being removed is the water barrel/field spell house placement blocking change. We’re taking this one out because although it does do what we want it to, threatening to change it has brought to light some other issues that need to be fixed. We will be looking at making a more complete set of changes to house placement and IDOCs in the future to make things more fair to players (and hopefully woefully unfair to scripters )

Re: Origin Publish Partial Revert

This question may have been answered before but, if you place a house on Test, will it effect your house on your home shard?

I've read before that it doesn't. Let's wait for someone who knows for sure

That's right, it does not affect our other (regular) home ownership when we place on TEST shards.

Wow it feels good to be heard for once. This is a step in the right direction as long as they don't do anything crazy with their future changes to the IDOC system.

Thanks!

What, like the IDOC monster idea?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, exactly like the IDOC monster idea
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

is it wrong for a woman to be in love with a woman named Jeremy?

*is curious*

now what about the current issue with lamp posts ect no longer being able to be raised? this has been happening since last publish *winks*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Or frankly any of the changes that effectively do away with IDOC hunting as we know it. For the love of UO fix the scripting but don't destroy the game play we enjoy.
Jeremy_EAMythic,
Thank you for your attention to this matter. It is a hot topic, obviously. While most people are concerned with illegal scripting and IDOCs, please let me bring your attention back to those posters who mentioned simply trying to resize their own house, only to have their land taken away in the blink of an eye! In my humble opinion, there needs to be a way to resize your house without fear of losing it as soon as the demolition occurs. I have heard this horrid story many times so it must be true. A scipter polymorphs, hides, and places his 7x7 house 24 hours a day, in hopes that you resize your house. Eventually steals your plot, then promptly sells it back to you on Ebay.
I hear they can be found using GM tracking. Can they also be revealed using Detect Hidden? Perhaps this way we could succesfully target the scripter and page a GM to investigate? Any advice would be appreciated, Gentlemen.
I would like to buy the 9th Anniv package, resize my tiny plot, and decorate, but I am much too scared.
P.S. Thank you Wilki and company for promptly fixing the Arcane clothing bug. Much appriciated! I know you will figure this one out too! . Posted here in too in case you got tired of looking at the original 7 page thread.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I seriously believe the current IDOC system is completely fair and balanced for everyone as long as scripting is removed from the equation. Of course people who organize and learn all the timings are going to excel over people who show up once in a while when they stumble upon a house in decay. Does that seem unfair? I mean I can't stroll into Doom and pick up arties like the guys who spend their lives in there and that makes perfect sense. I prefer to take them from their houses when they leave.

Fix scripting without changing the IDOC system and you'll really have something great.
