New Haven is really a haven for the young differing views]

source taken from UO U.Hall

Haven being set up this way for the young will be great. Easier to target the young players and help them. NO more running around to find an npc to train skills. One thing i'm not seeing is a trashcan ...

Nice jobs Devs

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think it was a good idea to create new haven too. Old haven was a bit too spacious. Having everything in a close proximity makes everything a lot easier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

and with young around you don't want a trashcan throw your junk on the ground and let some idustious young sell it to an npc or use it

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
lol
That is how I made most of my gold in my first few months playing UO. I would sit at the banks picking up the things people threw down. Sell it and run back to the bank.
I loved people who would train carpentry at the bank... all those gnarled staffs just begging to be sold!
Heh - i was thinking about backpacks full of shortbows that i'd pick up, run and sell- Anything for a buck when you're character is young.
Sorry but the new haven looks as if its a mining town of the old west, just throw up from the junk laying around from what is left of old Haven. I hope that someday they get rid of it and bring back the old haven as it was.
In the story line Haven was destroyed by the vein of Blackrock. However we have great mages of the day that can do miracles and cast a spell to bring Haven back to the way it was.
So I hope that someday this new haven is removed and the old Haven is returned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Infact thats the best part, the town DOES look like it was hastily constructed..... like they were in a hurry to make shelter....

thats they key point that makes it look all the more better...

(except for the GRAND bank that looks all brand new)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, New Haven is well thought out. I did a new mage and completed 6 of the quests in an evening.
Good points:
1) New folks adventuring together
2) Everything close together
3) Non-hostile spawn is good for newbies
4) curse casting spawn
What it needs:
1) Animal spawn (necros should have some animals to fight in the quest area), basic wolf/panther/bear to train on, eagles and birds for feathers, sheep for wool
2) A few more goodies out near the ettin. Some people like to explore. Mongbats and rats come to mind. Something to use the poison spell on. (There was still an old haven quest guy spawning out there)
3) Ostards?
4) It would be nice to add a rogue starting template
5) Never found that dueling pit, put the fighters in the quest area with the mages
6) The book for inscription should maybe be air elly slayer? (this to point mages to get scrolls of spells)
7) The spirit speak guy needs a real reward
8) new chars should start with buff/debuff bar up.
9) Lastly, it needs hooks to point new chars to other training areas: graveyards, orc forts, zento, delucia, despise and shame
Good job!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yep, there need to be animals around, especially some ostards and maybe a ridgeback or two.

And where are the Mongbats! It ain't Ultima without Mongbats!

I put mongbats back in the game today internally. Gotta have mongbats! That should publish soon (TM)

Today i met a young player through new train quest and i taught him how to play.
3 major problems at least on Oceania are...

1. When she got killed and insta ressed as she is a young player, she was teleported in center of Old Haven. But she couldnt get out of walled area with skelton spawn. 3 people and i tried to get in to rescue her but we couldnt
A Help Menu that used to bring youngs to Haven says "You are already in Haven." lol Stuck Help says "Enter your messege bla bla."
All she can do is delete her very first character and remake another clone. SAD.

2. We couldnt find Bushido Spellbook in New Haven. although she wanted to try to train bushido.

3. All Spinning Wheel in tailors shop near bank didnt work at all. new player should learn not only how to save his money by weaving cloth from cotton, also UO's great feature.

take a look into these problems pls. it shouldnt happen in Town for new players.

I think its great what they did to New Haven, the quest system, rewards, and skill gains. I put a skill on a soulstone today and trained in a new skill which takes you to 40 and did the quest to get me to 50, in just about 15-20 min, I will be transfering more skill overs and learning some new ones with this new system, woot.

I have only been there a few seconds but I have to say that I thought it was very, very nice.

I like the idea of giving them ideas on other places to go to. Maybe after they hit 50, they get a Heartwood type "go to a graveyard and kill 10 skeletons" or something for a little cash?

I know that i would definitely sit at New Haven bank now and again dropping gates to the places that the quests required if it came about. Maybe went with a group now and then to throw heals and cures aroud while they did their thing...

Yes I have to agree I like the way they have set Haven up for the new players.
I also like the way it gives more structure to the way the rest of us can help them.

From a RP sense its a great opportunity to interact with new players too.

Re: New Haven is really a haven for the young differing views]

Here's my ridiculous question for the day - since we can't recall into old Haven anymore, how can old characters get there? Do I have to find someone who already marked a rune in New Haven? (Can you recall into New Haven?)

Right now the only way to get to New Haven without someone having already marked a rune is to go through a moongate. New Haven is the last choice in the Trammel menu. The walk to the city from the moongate is not very dangerous. You will need to start going west as soon as you see a narrow path leading off from the southern edge of the town buildings.

You can still mark a rune outside the immediate area of the Old Haven site.

I love New Haven. i hope they keep adding bits to it over the enxt few publishes. Maybe a small newbie dungeon...mongbat lair of caves or something

Life is the Dance and Honor, the Dance is Death to those we oppose,
Honor is our salvation.
Without Honor the Dance is meaningless
forms and we are nothing.
