Make all the useless skills usefull??
source taken from UO.UHall
Thread :- Make all the useless skills usefull?? Comment So I went through and listed all the skills that are completley useless.. Camping Cooking Arms Lore Item Identification Taste Identification - Seriouslyz? Forensic Evaluation Begging Discordance Detecting Hiding Tracking So these are pretty much all the useless skills, I didn't even know taste identification still exsisted.. Hmm, so what's the point of a lot of these skills? What the hell can I do with GM begging?? Make like 200 gold off begging from an NPC? What is the point of item identification if there is nothing you can identify? Taste Identification, hmm, I am still trying to figure out what the point of this skill was... I never used it, don't know anyone who did... Ok, on to the point, why so many useless and unusable skills? The game is generally a PVM and a PVP game now, cause everything else is garbage, that is all people do, PVM and PVP, you don't see any merchants anymore trying to make a living while trying stay out of harms way, you got all these survival skills, but there is no need to survive in the game anymore.. Item Identification - Simple way to fix this, make it so we have to identify items again, and people will take up this skill Begging - Maybe increase the skill gain? I tried it, takes FOREVER and EVER to GM this skill, and you pretty much get nothing from begging, maybe if you could get some pretty nice gear and a lot of gold from NPC's, people would use this skill.. Stealing - Easy way to fix this one.. I don't even have to say why.. Taste Identification - ????? Hmm, i'm still confused when it comes to taste identification, if anyone has the skill, please tell me why? ############################ Woa Woa Discord useless? Are u on drugs lol ############################ Taste ID used to be able to let you taste a potion and then put it in an appropriate keg. Say pick up a bunch of Pots off MOBs (or buy potions off vendors), Taste ID them and then you could put them in Kegs. I don't know if it still works that way or not. And Taste ID could check to see if food was poisoned. Not an increadiblly useful skill but useful in some instances. ############################ Jeremy_EAMythic VIP UO Community Coordinator Taste ID, if I recall correctly, enabled you to find out the exactly details of a potion or (maybe?) if a food item was poisoned. ############################ The point is though, lot of these skills people would use in PVP if they had the room, but they don't, they pick whatever makes them rich or uber powerful.. I think most of these skills should be side skills/ not taking up your skill cap, but can still learn them.. ############################ Camping: useless with two Recall skills, runebooks, human jack of all trades, and houses. Ditch it, replace with something new. Cooking: Give food a purpose, maybe have some work as lesser versions of buff potions, stackable, lighter, but less potent. Have some foods that heal HP faster, mana as well. Cooking can still be moderately useful, but it needs some love. Arms Lore: Use as a specialization skill for Armour Crafting (Smithing, Tailoring, Carpentry... make you need 80.0 or more in any one of those three to start this skill), allow for better control of runic mods as well as for a bump in Resists based on skill. Item ID: Same for Arms Lore, but tie it into Weapons, Smithing, Carpentry, Tinkering, and Bowery the key skills here (one of those 80+) Taste ID: If keep it, find a way to make a BUNCH of potions available as monster loot. Have them drop as Grey hued potions and have to be Taste IDed to determine type and strength (catastrophic failure would have you consume the potion... for good or ill effects), if not a good idea... ditch it in favor of something new and updated. Forensic Eval: Some people swear by this one... personally, I say ditch it in favor of something new Begging: Actually begging got some love with ML and with the Halloween stuff, so keep it as is... the occasional special loot is nice, but it shouldn't be a "get rich" skill... it's BEGGING afterall. Discord: Fine and useful as is Detect Hidden: Ok as is, but Dungeons themselves need to be revamped to take it into consideration. Instanced areas of dungeons could give this an even better use in game, but until then... it will sit where it is. Tracking: Should auto-engage on death to direct you towards the nearest NPC healer (more skill = farther away you can locate one). WoW does a good job with it as it tracks creatures on the minimap... UO could do this, but Minimap functionality would have to be greatly enhanced. ############################ erm I'm making and selling 50 enchanted apples every day. The only reason I'm not selling more is I don't want to spend any more time making them. My cook is working hard thank you. She also makes tribal paint, grapes of wrath and fruit bowls, plus cakes and food decor tools which people buy to wish their friends 'happy birthday' or 'merry Christmas'. Taste id is indeed used to allow you to put potions into part-filled kegs. Quite useful for some pvpers whose potions come from a variety of sources. *coughs* Armslore used on a swampie's armour will tell you how close it is to breaking. A good idea before you set out on a hunt and don't want it to disappear after the first battle. Others have already told you that discord is alive and thriving. It is an extremely useful skill. Detect hidden and remove trap are useful on Siege where treasure chests do not respond to the 'telekenisis' spell.

Re: Make all the useless skills usefull??
Q Mums gonna kill him with her rolling pin when she finds him. Cooking???? Useless??? Her pies taste wonderful Thankya very much. And her cookies are to die for. Well, my tamer thinks so.
However he is right on some of the things. Basically all the skill shave been usefull in the past, but as times have changed they have grown useless. However they couldn't be removed form the game. Some of the old skool items need the skills. Like the old weapons, you still need the Item ID to find out what they are. Thats if you can find an old weapon, most ppl threw them away. However I have once seen a piece locked down that simply said, a sword. Correct me if i'm wrong about old skool items. |

Re: Make all the useless skills usefull??
I'm still trying to gm every skill on one account, but it's looking like mission impossible with taste id capped at 75.0 and not 0.1 ggs in a half year even. I've posted on this minor problem before. GM said to report it to the "lifeless" bug link. If there is an overhaul on some rp skills, please nerf the cap!

Re: Make all the useless skills usefull??
I'm in favor of them being spare skills and not counting twards your skill total.
Many of those are more like RP skills. My little poisoner for instance had taiste ID poisoning forensic eval alchemy hideing and stealth. I eventually had to give up some in favor of others. I'd like for them not to count so the Rangers out there for instance could have camping and still have their ranger skills. and beable to set up camp in the woods n such. But only some ofcourse. like begging camping taiste id forensic eval etc.

i beg to differ.... i use discord ALL the time, any one that has ever went into battle with me(any "true" bard) would also disagree. and to 100% honest, im completely offended that discord was put on a list with taste id ![]()

I agree with Nevaeh, but just look where this thread originated from. That other forum where they are not too bright.
