Grimm & CatHat Comment on the Art Changes
TheGrimmOmen: Glad you like the Dragon Armor. A lot of work went into it and I think Cathat did an outstanding job! As for the Character Status opinion, well, I'll grant that it's not where I'd like to take it visually, but I felt it was important to maintain consistency with the other UI pieces for now. If I ever get the chance to redo all the UI, it'll definitely be prettier. Player: Let me ask this, and no disrespect to GrimmOmen.
My question is this. Why update the art of dragon armor, when nobody hardly wears it, except for maybe a special occassion now and then. You don't see players running around in dragon armor anymore.
TheGrimmOmen: Good question, (well written - thank you!) and no disrespect taken.
It's one of those things on my list of "to do's." Basically, there's a lot of art that was never *really* there, or just implemented badly. The first to get tackled was the Samurai Empire art - drastic improvemement. Next was some of the legacy female wearables, nice change there. Now is the Dragon Armor and the winged helms. These last two assets were never properly implemented and really needed to be done properly.
Hopefully this answers your question. CatHat: Well the 'dragon armor' was a whole set that had no real art of its own - something we're addressing bit by bit between things. You'd also think that 'DRAGON ARMOR" would look cool - i mean taken from dragon hides you think it would be right? Maybe sometime the stats will be upped for it sometime to match how good it looks now - heh.
I also sorta saw it as a test to see how far i could push up the art's quality 'benchmark' with some new techniques I wanted to try out.
All and all i'm pretty happy with it - some of the glossy highlights on it coming up occasionally as pretty hots spots the 'white' some folks are identifying - like a glossy mirror finish flashing in the sun. However its a whole different set of art for the male and female making for a better fitting set and the art hues pretty nicely as well depending on what scales you use to craft it.
Anyway you cut it - it sure beats what was going on before it. Just trying to raise the bar on whats in there, and show what new things can be like. Player: Question: are the other 'artless' clothing pieces up next? I remember from the chat log about the flower garland and gilded dress, but what about the fur cape and boots, and the formal shirt?
CatHat: Don't worry - I haven't forgotten that stuff
Well basically, any new stuff will be as time permits between our various other tasks and are goings on here behind the scenes. But I/We have taken quite a few Item names for an art job 'hit list', so its just that darn "matter of time" thing. All comes down to the schedule of things which i don't even know sometimes so i couldn't tell ya without possibly mixing you all up. A major no no on the boards for us Dev folk.
Guess when they do hit it will be a nice suprise to you all. New art being better than the nothing fake-o repeat that exists for some items. With any luck, NEW or Redone stuff will come trickling in with each publish - or at least is my hope. Some of it common things like the Dragon armor - some of it maybe quest treasure 'Rare' stuff.
PS - anybody like the Blessed Statue home item - my "Cathat" statue or so it says on the base in runes. Couldn't help but enduldgeing myself on that one.
