GM Spada: Is the following legal?

Thread :- GM Spada: Is the following legal?

Comment

I like the rotting corpse room in Covetous, thus I go there a lot. It gives my Cu some healing gains if I'm lucky, it has some nice additional locked dungeon chests, I get some loot to sell, some gold and if I'm very lucky, perhaps a few level 5 t-maps...

Lately however, all I see is people leaving their Cu Sidhe in there, while they themselves are either not there, or hidden and afk. The Cu heals himself fast enough to keep itself from dying while waiting for the next rotting corpse to spawn...

Fortunately, the Cu can be led from the room because it targets stuff outside of that room aswell, thus opening a closed door, perhaps a cell door down there, and the Cu's out of that room: problem temporarily solved. That is, until the afk owner returns to that level, or his computer, gets his Cu, parks it back in there, hides or leaves and the cycle continues...

I really have to question the ethics behind this. People are not allowed to skill train afk. Doing so and getting caught means risking ban time. Are people allowed to do this? I've paged a GM twice. Both times the Cu's that were in there had been there for a very long time with no owner in sight...

Also, they want me to file it under harrassment, and target the player involved. I can't target the player however. Is targetting the pet that's being afk trained enough?...

Hope I can get an answer. I have no problem if someone's there actively training his Cu, but this... this is just wrong in my view...

...

Personally, if I were a GM, I'd just delete the Cu and be done with it.

Sounds illegal to me and I think a few lost bonded Cu's would wisen a few people up (after a good round of whining).

Of course I always thought that the answer to Unattended Macroing was progressive Skill/Stat Loss (a Certain percentage that would go up for each offense).

As long as we read PKs whining about Stat Loss, a good round of STat Loss for macroers would stop unattended macroing cold.

For me it comes down to the simple statement of "If you don't care enough to care for your character/pet, you don't have the right to complain about what happens to it while you're not there".

############################

Its my understanding that MACROING is illegal. I have to admit that I am one that has left my cu in a room for training. WITH NO MACROING INVOLVED so how exactly does that violate TOS? Enlighten me. I have never completely read through it but I dont see how it can be illegal or banable or whateverable if you are not running a script/macro. Just curiouse as to your line of thinking is all not trying to be mean or rude.

I asked Spada, and this is what he said:

Re: Why the GM wanted you to report it as harassment:

"We require in most TOS reports that the player provide some target. This allows us to easily find the player that is being reported (since UO doesn’t use unique names, and players often spell them wrong). It also tells us if the player is online or not. "

Re: the actual afk training:

"As to working your pets skills unattended whether you are AFK or not, we consider this a violation."

Thank you, to me this keeps within the spirit of the rule.
