Binky: Based on the feedback we have received we are looking at alternative font options. The main issue seems to be that he font is too narrow. Below I have posted several examples of bolded fonts of the Ariel family (what is currently in the game) in different colors.

We are trying to determine which font size and color combination would work best for new and current players.

What do you think?

This is an example of the new font that was added with Pub 39 but with a different color.

Or maybe you have different suggestions for the default color? One that will show up on your screen and in your journal? Thoughts, ideas?

Binky: These changes are to help new players. They don’t know how to navigate the interface as easily as most of you do. The more barriers to entry we can help eliminate for the new players the better off we all are. More people playing for us, more adventurers or PVP buddies (enemies) you.

We probably won't make the old font the default font moving forward. That has continually been a complaint from new players who quit the game shortly after beginning.

And you can always set it to that font if you choose to do so.

Player: What is wrong with giving players the option of using any font and font size installed on their Windows system? It is afterall a Windows program running on a Windows OS. I know of no other program that limits people to only a couple pre-selected fonts, all other programs I am familiar with allow people to choose any font that is installed on their system.

Binky: t has to do with the way the original font system (and subsequent translatable font system) were written and are handled.

Also, most games do not let you adjust the fonts at all that I am aware of. I know you can change the size (between a few choices) in some games and font color in others, but very few that I am aware of give you even the flexibility that we offer. (this statement does not take into account 3rd party applications that allow you to do that)

I could be wrong though.

I think that hits the nail on the head for me more than a font change. I can deal with almost any font, if I can just read it on the (no pun or slight intended) Blinking Journal!!! (my first choice of words was ... not a family oriented one) My best hope on this realized would be a more visible display that shows nicely both on the screen and on the journal. It is very difficult to get a font color that does both right now. Do that and my tired eyes thank you and bless you for all the generations of your family to come.

I don't care for the yellow personally, it seems to hard to read. Same with the green. I guess my vote would go to the purple-ish at the bottom.

Font size is an issues, but should be defaulted by screensize and gameplay windows size. Perhaps during installation (for new players) the option to select fonts during install.

For colors, they (Devs) need to remember there are degress of color depths (per system, vid card, monitor ect) so that "Newbie" Blue Text and Barf yellow emotes, are not generaly readable in journals as installed. Its one of the first things I teach new folks.

I like the red in the journal..but not on the screen. That's always been my issue in game...one color looks good in the journal and not in game and vice-versa.

And you don't even want to get into some colors that look good in 2D and then us 3D players can't read their text at all (like dark blue colors)

If we have the choice I would personall like to see the journal hued a slightly darker color.

But out of the options for the newbies...I'd have to go with the red or the yellow. And probably the small, bolded one. Seems easy enough to read.

It would be nice to change the journal background colour. Either way I can read the old default font just fine.

I have to vote for the purple/pink number 7 that seem to be the easiest for me to read but I agree with Mapper it would be nice to be able to change the background colour or maybe just lighten or darken it to a small degree with the a slider

I too agree that the background color in the journal should be changed to something darker. I wonder how a lighter gray would look. Also, the light green and the pinkish purple text are easiest for me to read.

Definitely looks alot better.

The old one was hell on the eyes...

man i dont know what font u picked to use for uo but i hate it... u say the old stuff was hard to read... i think this stuff it hard to read and dont go with the game at all.
