Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

From: http://www.uo.com/fiveonfriday1.html

July 21, 2006

1. It was stated that an exploit was fixed in this week’s publish. Can you tell us what this was?
Ando:The exploit involved the housing system. However since the Dev team is not sure whether this was an issue players had actually discovered yet, it has been decided not to provide any further details about it.

2. Does discord negatively impact loot drops?
Wilki: No, it does not. Each monster has its own loot table, with luck playing a small role in determining what is actually generated upon death.

3. Has there been any discussion amongst the dev team about implementing a cap on melee damage? (e.g. to stop 60-70 damage concussion blows against 70 physical resist)
MrTact:No. We’d rather switch to a damage model that makes more sense. Obviously, that’s a huge undertaking and we’re not sure when that might be able to happen.

4. Does the dev team have any plans to change vamp form so that players in LRC suits start taking damage for casting spells that use garlic? Or is this as intended?
MrTact:It wasn’t intended that way. We should probably fix it at some point, but it’s way below our radar right now.

5. Are we ever going to get bookshelves (shelves with books)?
TheGrimmOmen:Although it’s not currently on the schedule, it seems like something we might consider in an upcoming publish.

You know folks have been asking for full bookshelves for years. That seems like it would be fairly simple, since they are already in the artwork. It sure would make a lot of folks happy.

Re: Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

The thing with the additional art they could add - its not Technically Challenging to get the art into the game as something the players can use - but rather more of a task from a Design point of view- do they work it iin as new parts of crafting, tailor, blacksmith etc, part of housing, make it part of a quest- offer 300+ items for 9.99, vet rewards or NPCs selling it.

Usually the vote comes down to mix of "all of the above" - which is the most difficult and time consuming to plan.

Never thought of it that way, and looking at it like that, it almost makes it feasible as to why things take longer than we (players) expect.

Re: Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

I know the crafters have asking to make them for ages but if the Carpenters got them they would be happy for a couple days...then everyone would have one in thier house and sales would stop.

I had never thought of how they would be introduced in the game. See it does get more complicated. I would take one as a Vet reward.

Re: Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

For the love of all humanity, keep it simple! Just put them on the carpentry menu alongside empty bookcases. I don't want to farm dungeons or go "on an intense quest down to the lair of the demon god and retrieve the sacred relic: the bookcase", or farm a million of some rare, expensive ingredient to get a shelf with books on it. Nor do I want to have to buy one with an arm, a leg, my first born son and my soul. Make it so anyone can get them easily.
Oh, and uh... thanks.

Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away,
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why,
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire.

I like it.

Or, make it so you have to collect 100,000 thesis notes (from Bedlam), 100 hides, and 500 sea serpent scales to create the books for the shelves. Oh, and don't get me started on what needs to be done to get the special wood for the shelves in the first place...

On second thought, an addition in the carpentry crafting gump wouldn't be bad.

Re: Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

I could see if you had to have carpentry + inscription to make a full bookcase. That would kinda make sense.

Re: Five on Friday - July 21, 2006

Man I wish people would stop crying for weapon nerfs! We have taken hits in EVERY pub in the last year or so. Archers hit too hard, nerf AI, archers hit too hard again, nerf weapon damage, Archers hit too fast, nerf swing, Archers can honor and crit hard, nerf honor. Nobody realizes that all of this affects fencers, swds, macers. Nobody ever complains about a swordsman hitting too hard, or fast. Heck, we can barely keep up with the neverending 100%hci that a mage has with their 100% guarantee to hit you spells, as they run from you.
