Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

taken from Thread :- Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures found in UO.UHall

Please tell me that they did not mean to have every summond spell creature dispeled instantly by any monster in the game...

###########################

Uh oh.... care to clarify?

############################

Is this only on Origin? I live in Legends, and was just in Bedlam ~~ ev's stayed up against the students as long as they normally do

############################

Well a direwolf for instance.. never dispeled a vortex.. it does now.. instantly.. same with earth ele's... deamons.... rev's... natures fury... you name it.. anything a mage or necro or spellweaver that isn't a direct spell is instantly poofed away.. If they meant for this to be.. the last leve spells are worthlesss....

oops yeah on origin...

Where are you when this is happening?

##########################

It only seems to be the dungeon-dwellers that are dispelling summons, and it would seem that it is intended. As per the new quests, which revolve around killing things in dungeons

#########################

Thats nuts!!! I hope it's a glitch and they catch it soon.

#########################

I doubt it. It seems to be intended. The new quests call for us to collect "Books of Truth" - which from my understanding, are supposed to spawn on creatures in the existing dungeons (although they don't seem to be spawning yet on Origin). I imagine it would give mages an unfair advantage if they could just stand in a dungeon and cast EV's to their hearts' desire, tearing through all the nearby spawn rapidly - which I'm guessing is why dungeon monsters are dispelling as crazily as they are. It just means that mages will have to find other ways of fighting in dungeons for the duration of this event.

Another thing I've noticed is that the line of sight rules appear to have been dramatically tightened in the dungeons - if something as simple as a chest is between you and the creature you're targeting, you won't have line of sight, and therefore can't hit it with spells. Same applies for other obstacles - even slightly-raised ledges.

#########################

As long as they keep it in the dungeons mentioned only I'm fine with that. I agree mages leaving summons all over can be a pain for the rest. Had alot of that happening during the last ToTs.

#########################

yea but to nerf mages in dungeons isnt really fair too.

i am ok with the instant dispell if they would increase another spell for it or just increase spell damage a few percent for the duration of the event. they also could make the ev weaker instead of removing it etc etc .... they are enough ways to make it fair .... but no they just nerf

an ev was a good way to get some mana back while it fighted ... so mages run around lacking on mana all the time.

i mean they didnt forbidden swordmen to use swords too, they could use maces ... woot they dont have macing skill? hey they need to find a way themselves

##########################

It is most likely planned that way; some Dev decided that Mages shouldn't be able to use Summons to complete the quest, even the EV, EE and such are the normal mage methodology for hunting / farming.

What is much more disturbing is the possibility that that the dungeons will be left this way for extended periods of time - read months and months - much like the semi-permanent loss of recalling into Papua and other places after the Ophidian Invasion was completed.

My never humble opinin is that the Devs should change ANY part of game mechanics for the specific purpose of supporting their idea of how in-game events should be handled. They have an extremely poor track record of restoring normal gameplay after the events are completed. Only the EM events have a worse record for incompleteness and general damage to normal gameplay.

I agree with that part
The Baja EM blocked off the Gargoyle city entrance for some event and never unblocked it
It stayed blocked for months
People need to use that city to buy those stone mining/glass blowing books.

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

Mages really are the most nerfed class in UO history. I quit playing my mages a looong time ago. They just are no longer fun to play. I just stick to my paladins nowadays.

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

I'm not so certain I agree with the idea of any ol' monster, like a slime, dispelling energy vortex, because not only does it not make sense for a low monster to completely negate a high level spell, but it just makes the spell, and having the magery to cast it, useless. On the other hand, I hate seeing mages leaving their annoying summons everywhere.

I liked it better when mage summons would, at some point, turn on the caster. That made things really interesting.

I couldnt believe how long it took me to kill anything without an EV or Earthy keeping it busy while I casted...

Doesnt seem to make much sense to me either...

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

It makes sense if you remember how mages farmed ToT 1. It seems the nerf is ONLY affecting the legacy dungeons. It is a little annoying but not an end of the world change.

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

Yeah, but is it really much different than a tamer with a Cu? Heck, the Cu can stay alive indefinitely unvetted in alot of different spawn areas where the EVs will always have a finite lifespan...

And you have to loot the books, not like ToT where they just dropped in your pack...

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

I agree with Deraj on the Ev's being left behind.I always dispel mine before I leave anywhere i have used them.

However I agree with Ezekiel that it is no different than a tamer who has a pet to attack monsters.

My ev's are very powerful, and I rely on them heavily to keep me alive.I am a pure mage so have no alternate skills to aid me.

Even elementals are being dispelled too

However I just go with my boyfriend who takes his tamer. He provokes two monsters and I just hit them with spells

It works nicely

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

Since the original EV nerf they have not been near as effective as they used to be. Another nerf to them was uncalled for.

Even during the 1st ToT I could take my Paladin and get looting rights around all the EV's. The original nerf was unneeded.

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

Today I watched a Cu Sidhe kill Elder Gazers all alone (this is after I PKed the tamer). Anyway, it killed about 30 before the tamer summoned it away. I don't understand why tamers are allowed to have such powerful pets while a mage can not have an Energy Vortex which costs a lot of mana, has limited life span, can be dispelled, and does not follow any commands.

*nods agreeing with last two posters *

Would the above posters mind if I used some of their comments [ linked and accredited of course] in a question to the Community Dev Jeremy?

Re: Energy Vortex, and other summond creatures

Huh... conflicting thoughts... but oh well, I'll toss them up for you all to debate.

Mages have offensive/defensive spells.

Tamers have... offensive/defensive pets.

I do not want to hear NERF thrown around with the term MAGE ever. Mages have the ability to summon ________ (Taming), can dish out damage from a distance (Archery), can Paralyze (Melee Special Move), Poison (Poisoning), restrict movement (bag balls, etc), Heal/Cure/Resurrect (Healing/Chiv/SS/Bush), and the list goes on. So they took out the Taming portion of the skill for this event only, live with it and dry those eyes.
