In this thread on UO U.Hall a poster asks why players are hired to be GM's.

They mentioned in the thread that if you know UO well you should add that to your resume when applying and they will try put you as a UO GM.


Why must they hire players to be GMs? Just to save a few bucks training them? And what happens when they hire a banned scripter/duper/hacker as a GM? Or if they hire one of these players who sells UO gold and arties and houses online for real money? What happens when they hire YOUR worst enemy on UO as GM and this person comes when you page them?

People who currently play, or work, or sell UO items online have a vested interest in what happens ingame and are poor choices to hire as GMs.


I am sure all the scripters and dupers already have their applications turned in. I donot see GM service getting better just because they hired 50 new GMs who all play UO and want exactly the same things that we players want.

Better start kissing EVERYONE ingames butt because we donot know who will be the next GM who has the power to ban our accounts. Most likely that guy you killed in Fel yesterday and who is still ticked at you.

Because GMs that actually played UO may know some of the problems already and help?

They will have a tougher job helping at daoc calles then though or sims online where 'help my bathtub is overflowing can you fix it' may be an easy fix.

It's a shame they don't offer remote positions, like they did the EM's

Of course you want GM's that are players, just like you want developers that play. Given a choice between two equally qualified people, but one has experience playing the game, we'd pick the player every single time. That's true throughout the entire industry.

I can't help but to notice that you seem to have an axe to grind with EA. No matter what we do, you find a way to twist it into being something bad or part of some conspiracy theory. It's one thing to bring up concerns, but it's quite another to go out of your way to stir up problems where none exist.

I'd rather have a player as a GM since they would know some of the frustrations and problems that are around in the game.
