This might be a little off-topic, but [url=http://news.com.com/Cons+in+the+virtual+gaming+world/2100-1043_3-6111089.html?tag=nefd.lede this [/url]is an interesting article about scams in online games and whether RL judicial systems should get involved. I read through it really fast and didn't see UO specifically mentioned, but I do believe it is relevant to our Duping ("counterfeiting"), max weight, and other scams....

My personal feeling is that if an item is stolen or scammed within the rules of the game, then there should be no possible rl crime. If someone steals, scams, or dupes something outside of the rules of the game, then their account should be banned. If they do something like steal an account or bring down a server, then rl laws have been broken and they should face real-life punishment.

That was definately interesting. A couple years ago some players who helped the Catskills Grogs get a new start were also betrayed by someone who looted guild coffers. There has never been anyone other than myself as a member (permanent) of my Grog guilds and I suspect there may never be.

Grog UO rule #1 for new players: Don't trust anyone including siblings, parents, children and cousins.

I have never been burnt (I follow rule #1) but I have seen players burned by all of the above.

I think if our author friend had really done their research they might have had a lot more fun including talk about mob style extortion/protection and (cyber) prostitution that even happens in some MMORPGs as well. LOL Suprising how many virtual worlds have people playing out dark virtual underbeliys in them.

Its no wonder we see sociologists and economists itching to write books on all of the various microcosms that are MMOGs.

Freckles only occur with sunlight, those don't exist on geeks.
