The topic for this interview is Cross Shard Transfers. All of us in the UO world see the affects, but in the pvp community the affects are very apparent. Oddly enough, these effects differ from shard to shard…. 1. How has Cross Shard Transfers affected your guild? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): Players in my guild use cross shard transfers to send gold and items to characters on other shards and to buy items on other shards to send to our main shard. I once paid 20 million gold in transfer tokens to go to Atlantic with gold and buy a 2 million gold ring to bring back to Sonoma. Sometimes we send power scrolls and stat scrolls to other shards to sell at a higher price than we would get on our shard. We have also recruited people from other shards. All in all cross shard transfers have had a positive effect on our guild. A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): Well I have gotten a few people from different shards. Friends of friends more or less. Most of my guys I imagine are from other shards like myself. Talon, GM of VaMp (Lake Austin): Cross shard transfers have had many positive affects on my guild. It has improved recruitment possibilities, as players are much more likely to move shards if they do not have to rebuild suits and characters. As well, economically, it has allowed people to take advantage of selling items across shards, making them able to maximize profits. Aggie, Council Member of LNR (Atlantic): An influx of "professional" pvpers from other shards have driven the more casual members out of fel. 2. How has Cross Shard Transfers affected the pvp community on your shard? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): Occasionally guilds come to our shard to challenge our pvp community. The better ones teach us strategies and techniques that we can use to our own advantage. Some cross shard guilds have allied us to help us fight larger zerg guilds. A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): Well on Napa Valley the pvp died down a lot after I first got here cause I made a guild that was capable of fighting the zerg that was here. I pushed them off and they keep coming back. I just keep fighting no matter what. I just play this game for fun so as long as there is a pvp community I am happy. Talon, GM of VaMp (Lake Austin): Being a lower population shard, it has been a negative drain on pvp'ers for sure. But as a positive we are able to send personnel to other shards to enjoy pvp on larger shards. Aggie, Council Member of LNR (Atlantic): The PVP community is now full of l33t noobs who all run the latest gimp template and use any/every exploit they can find. Not only do we have the ones from our shard, but now we have a crap load from other shards. 3. How has Cross Shard Transfers affected your guild’s economy? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): Cross shard transfers haven't effected our guild's economy very much as far as people transferring to our shard. The exception to this is cross sharding dupers. Dupers cause prices to rise in most cases. This can be good and bad for us. It allows us to sell scrolls at a higher price but we have to pay more for artifacts and armor. A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): Guilds economy is great. Selling stuff on Napa can be difficult from time to time but brokers are always willing to xfer to buy stuff from us. Talon, GM of VaMp (Lake Austin): In a positive way, we are able to send product to larger shards that can afford to pay more for items. Aggie, Council Member of LNR (Atlantic): It has basically crippled our economy. No scrolls coming in, no auctions, no profit. 4. Have you ever taken your guild to another shard? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): Moo has never transferred to another shard. A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): I brought my guild to Lake Austin for a little bit. We went to help some friends in W@R and KDL. Aggie, Council Member of LNR (Atlantic): Didn't take my guild, but some friends of mine and I went to a Japanese shard to farm doom. We got tons of arties, but were way too laggy to even think about pvp. If yes, how was the experience? A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): It was boring after a few days cause VAMP had no one worth fighting and eventually everyone just hid. I had my guys xfer back to Napa when they wanted to. I have also xferred with SX to all the east coast servers. Those times were fun as well. Talon, GM of VaMp (Lake Austin): Yes, It was a lot of fun, it is nice to be able to fight people without having to worry about profit. If no, why not? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): We haven’t cross sharded because we haven't had any reason to. PVP has been good on our shard. 5. How has Cross Shard Transfers affected the pvp community as a whole? Ed, GM of MOO (Sonoma): Cross shard transfers have allowed some pvp guilds to grow extremely strong by gathering the best of the best from several shards. It has also allowed some larger guilds to farm power scrolls on smaller shards by outnumbering the guilds on that shard. A Possum, GM of WtF? (Napa Valley): Well it has cause a lot of flocking to the more active shards but it only makes sense. If you play the game for one reason like pvp why not go somewhere where you can always find it. I personally got tired of the large shards. Lots of people in the guilds and the talent was few and far between in those guilds. Obviously there are exceptions but more or less that sums it up. Talon, GM of VaMp (Lake Austin): Positively, where people were able to board warrior in the past but never actually fight, now those head to head fights can be arranged. Aggie, Council Member of LNR (Atlantic): See answer #2. (The PVP community is now full of l33t noobs who all run the latest gimp template and use any/every exploit they can find. Not only do we have the ones from our shard, but now we have a crap load from other shards.) ![]() ![]() |
