Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 at 6:00PM PST (2:00AM GMT February 9th), we will deploy client patch 5.0.1j.

Details for the patch are as follows:

• Increased avatar size in 3D client
• Changed the default font size and color to make it easier to read
• 2d client now has check box for Reduce Display Framerate in the display options menu to reduce CPU usage on some systems. Click here to see how to enable this.
• Sticky health bars no longer disappear if a partied member performs certain actions
• Default desktop now works correctly on 3D clients from older installs
• Double clicking the middle button no longer toggles auto-run
• Fixed an issue that was causing the mouse-wheel to steal focus from the game window in some cases
• Fixed an issue where Japanese clients were seeing the new fonts in certain cases
• Japanese localization updates

If patched correctly, your current version will display 5.0.1j for both clients. If you have any difficulty receiving this patch, please check the following:

Check the "Patch" directory within your Ultima Online directory (the default location is C:\Program Files\EA Games\Ultima Online\Patch). This directory should be empty. Any files in this directory should be deleted.

Run a virus scan on your computer. Undetected viruses may cause conflicts with patching Ultima Online. For information on up-to-date virus detection software, please visit http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/vso/default.asp.

If after trying the above, you are still experiencing difficulty patching the Ultima Online client, please visit this web page.

Is anyone noticing since this patch or whatever theyre calling it, that their settings dont hold? Every few times I have to put all my spells back out, and re size my play screen.

Yep, I'm noticing that too and it's getting old fast. My spell icons and my skills icons were gone again last night. I really don't understand what changes they made that would cause this.

I've heard of this before. Several times in the past, but have not personally seen it, nor those folks who's machines I've helped Tweak for UO.

There is an Option in UO's Macro section. Its called "Save Desktop". I got into the habit since it was installed, of using it frequently. Using this has always saved my desktop, and save new macro's and skill settings.

I think that sometimes, UO don't save those settings, because of the varying ways many folks shut down UO.

As a final step, make sure your "desktop" folder (gag!! Its a DIRECTORY) isn't write protected. Sometimes during patches and or updates, the settings can get a little skewed.

Well the thing is, I have used the same desktop scheme file forever. Its still there, in the folder in the UO directory. I drag it out of the folder everytime I reformat or re-install. So there is something else sneaky going on there!

Only time I've suffered from this is switching from 2d to 3d and back, or char transfer.

Yah, that is exactly how it happened for me. I went to try to see what the changes were on 3d to 2d, and it happened each time. I didnt even bother logging on as my necro mage, I did not want to drag out 50 something spell icons again..
