Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
I don't see why anyone should have to work a Peerless or Doom for days at a time, get an arty and then lose it to gankers in Fel. The current insurance system seems fine to me. If anything you could bump up the cost of insurance to 700-900, but that's as far as I'd like to see UO go.
No reason to limit the number of blessed/insured items. Some people work really hard to get these items, they shouldn't have to risk them. Not only that, but they shouldn't have to sacrifice being able to enjoy PKing because suddenly they can't wear their entire suit and have to mix on crap armor. I personally drop about 4-6k everytime I'm killed, and most people I've killed have 3-6k as well. This is good loot when you think about how much easier it is to kill a player than it is to kill a peerless or the DF. Not only that, but there is a chance that someone ran out of insurance, forgot to insure...etc. I think the chances of which are similar to actually getting an arty via a boss. I don't think people play this game to get killed/griefed/ganked. A majority of the players play this game to have fun. I think you see where I'm going with this line of thought. If people wanted to feel risk/tension when playing this game, I'm pretty sure they could make the choice to not insure their items. The fact that everyone blesses/insures, shows that no one wants to get rid of it. I'd like to see the people that are not in favor of insurance and bless deeds to walk around in Fel without insurance and see how much they enjoy it. While you did say the reward is higher if everyone was limited in what they can insure. I believe you'd only be giving a massive advantage to griefers and cheaters, people that we don't exactly need in UO- though they pay as much as you or I do, think about how many innocent people quit UO because of someone like that. |

Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
Sometimes I wish the staff would recognize that not every player is a pure "Trammy" or pure "PvPer", as many of us are equally spread across both facets and much of what each has to offer.
Remove item insurance or limit item insurance and suddenly AoS becomes a worse problem than anyone thinks of it as now. Limit item insurance with the unique, per item, per piece properties that they have now and the only people who will benefit from it in any way are the massive champion spawn guilds who roam from shard to shard. These people will simply out resource everyone else in Felucca because, contrary to what Cathat stated, a single piece or two of equipment in someone's suit will make a difference. Not only in PvP, but PvM as well. Again, the massive guilds who min-max will not be hampered, but the rest of us will. We're not all going to suddenly think "Okay! I might lose half of this suit that took me months, millions of gold, time with a hammer or sewing kit to create, but that's thrilling because of the risk!" We're either going to hunt weaker creatures than we normally do while at the same time wearing complete junk, or we just won't hunt that much anymore period. You cannot remove insurance in post-AoS UO, while retaining the unique, per item properties every item has. We didn't just recieve insurance with AoS, we recieved item properties as well. We're not talking about running back to a vendor and buying our 13,729th dull copper light archer suit. That's not going to suddenly happen because that doesn't exist anymore. The only way around that, and this is a bit disheartening, is for us all to adopt the Lunaland approach of using every marty and reward item, that everyone else uses, with the same templates everyone else uses. So yes, if we're all willing to run around in heart of the loin, sammy helm, leggings of embers, et cetera...I guess we're all good to go. The other thing is...who really thinks the people who complain the most about insurance now are going to stop complaining if insurance is limited? You'll have people complaining about it from two different viewpoints. Personally, honestly, I think more good could be done and more of the playerbase made happy if the quirks in insurance were worked out so that we all had a great confidence in it than we do now. Basically, we're already dealing with the "risk" factor and none of us really think it's great... |

Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
I have limited insurance right now. I don't have enough gold to get everything back when I die.
so ah... where do you get these large piles of gold I have been hearing about?

Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
I only insure items that would hurt me to lose. Like my gypsy headdress, or such things. I'd rather shell out a few grand for a new tunic than to shell out more to try and get the original back. My exceptions are really high resist armors, arties, or my lrc suit.

Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
Everything is insured or bless, I leave nothing for the enemy. Even the insurance he does get back was originally his or her insurance to begin with.

Re: Cathat comments on Insurance
Thanks, Tukaram.
I see a lot of good comments in these posts. *Quoting Maximinus Thrax*: " If people wanted to feel risk/tension when playing this game, I'm pretty sure they could make the choice to not insure their items. I believe you'd only be giving a massive advantage to griefers and cheaters, people that we don't exactly need in UO- though they pay as much as you or I do, think about how many innocent people quit UO because of someone like that." *end quote* No one is forced to use Blessings or Insurance.... it is a personal choice and those who don't wish to use them, seem to me to be complaining in a spiteful sort of way.. meaning, they don't think anyone should play in any style which is different from their own. *Quoting Terrance* : (long post so I snipped, but most of it was valid and particularly hit notes with me. ) "The other thing is...who really thinks the people who complain the most about insurance now are going to stop complaining if insurance is limited? You'll have people complaining about it from two different viewpoints."*End Quote* This is so very true. The complainers will always find something new to complain about. Sometimes I wonder if any of them even play; they seem to have so much time on their hands to think up complaints and post them. Fortunately we aren't subjected to nearly as much of that as the Devs are.. which is, of course, why the Devs are thinking about such changes.. once more.. 'the noisy hinge, gets the oil'.
