![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | CatHat battles with partial and full hues source taken from UO.UHa;; I think the work your doing is great. But before your time, I have been annoyed by this... Why must the whole bloody object be dyed a color when you dye it? Its fine for like chests and some furniture. But a lot of furnture should just get pieces of it dyed. Like the the wood trim or the seat. Same with weapons why the heck does the whole sword get dyed and not just the blade. Same with plants. Orange leaves and orange stems. Come on. If we going to have such obscene colors cant you fix how some items are dyed. Thank you for your time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not possible unless they recreate the artwork for every possible color. Thats a limitation of a sprites based engine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ False. You only need one image or animation to handle all colors. The best way to describe it is like this. The badly hueing objects only have the image data, applying a hue adjusts the color scale for the whole image. The 'properly' hueing images have two parts of data, the image, and a 'alpha' layer containing a mask that affects what exactly gets recolored, and what is not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just seems its a lazy way to do things programming wise. (historically speaking) Its like saying "just give the players colors and they will be happy". Im sure its a technical thing but maybe create few well done multicolored objects and less of the completley hued items. The artic death dealer looks good. But I think it would look better with a multi hued handle and an artic blue tip. (you know what I mean) Just stop making so many things hued with one color. I get the gray looking rations. They could be dried foods etc. Although reptiles would eat live foods anyway. But that is beside the point. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CatHat UO Character/Environments Artist Its the difference between a partial hue and a full hue.. A partial hue is developed with part of the art as greyscale (dragon armor, fancy dress, Ratmen bodies for example)- only b&W in places - no real RGB on a portion, so it can have its grey portion Re-colored. That way things don't seem so 'dipped' in color. The problem is a lot of the art that exists doesn't have a lot partial hueing made on it - maybe they assumed things would never be hued - only adding hueing later - so the whole thing changes color. Its one of those things where i don't think the founders envisioned how long art and the game would be around, and how much art would be re-used and new devs might not realize how important or tricky it can be. Its a long drawn out battle for me to see this stuff gets changed. Part of the problem is if i do go back and alter stuff to be partially Grey in its normal state -then all instances of it already existing must be found and changed to a HUED one so the grey part takes on the correct color. Otherwise all the objects and plants go grey. Then you get to scan through 8, uh 9 years of stuff like that set it all to color. A lot of sh- uh. Snow to shovel. Big tasks. So bottom line is its no simple redo where i can flip a switch or replace one piece of art and make it all ok. So you see what i'm up against and why it got that way. I totally agree with your sensabilites here about the topic. From my earliest posts this has been something i've been about seeing set right. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: CatHat battles with partial and full hues As someone posted before the revert, it's the 'negative' colors.. the ones with the light and shadow reversed in the hue, that are the eyesores. Like the glaring phosphorescent Ice Worm color... Basic Neons are mostly quite acceptable and realistic. ![]() ~ "It's definitely a Bubble Bath Day.". ~ Dove Promise ~ |
