CatHat answers some Questions!
As posted on UO Stratics:
Thread: wow...kinda makes ya wonder how a free game looks better than uo..
Player: please tell me how one of the biggest gaming companys in the world cant give a 10 year old game a overhaul Got any smart comment for that Cathat?
CatHat: Easy - EA might collectively be one of the largest game companies in the world - but the UO division and its budget is not.
They've been on about this kind of stuff for as nearly as long as UO has gone one. And with time its only gotten harder. Gamer's expectations rise - existing content grows. Its never an easy task growing your game to where you'll satisfy. You don't get that many chances once you commit..
CatHat Player: I'm very sick of the Dev team not being upfront, or not really showing any sort of connection with the community.
Do people on stratics whine and moan? Yes, a lot do. But that's because they are angry, they are frustrated and they feel like NO ONE IS LISTENING.
CatHat: Yeah - there's a lot of old cycles like what your saying that will need to be broken down given time. We'll have to deliver a lot more good content - make a happier community, and draw out more ot the shy devs interacting with you all.
Its difficult for a lot of folks to be a Dev and then go the extra mile on your off hours to talk to the community about things that might be more sensitive and still walk a tightrope of what the corporation says you can and can't say. Some simply have no real tounge for it. Even still, a lot of the Dev just opt to be lurkers on most topics - reading through them. So speaking back or not, most still hear. And if they don't, other avid team members bring it to thier attention. People aren't so absent, as just busy.
My team mates and I are really bustling these days with the growth Darkscriibe has brought us too. As you all know we have in our hot little hands right now a much bigger piece of the EA pie for UO that in it's past. Thats all very good for UO. A lot of Dev's are AWOL on the boards cause they're keeping us so busy. If we weren't - now that would be a bad sign - lol.
So don't let anything of what i said get you down. I'm just delivering up front information to you guys as best i can. UO has simple been through a lot of transition periods as you know. It's never been a case of them not caring or any reallly bleak situations.
CatHat Player: do it in the UO way, by opening up Meer, Orc, Gargoyles, etc. as playable races. Instead, we'll probably get dwarves and hobbits.
CatHat: Its rumored that EA might be located close to the 9 gates of hell here - but even we could never be so cruel to just toss hobbits and dwarves on you guys when there's cooler UO Orcs and Gargolyes to be found.
