Angry Player Threatening Lawsuit

Player (comments shortened due to length of post): I'm just curious as i gaze over the uo.com site and see yet no further response or any HELPFUL information on character transfer, as to if EA is close to being on the fringes of false advertising on it's product.

Personally, i don't care if it ever comes back, but i don't like being taken for a ride either...

As part of the $70 value, it quite clearly states that shard transfer $19.99 is included when you purchase the product and as such is implied that it can be used.

I would sincerly hope that we hear from more then just Wilki on this, perhaps marking guy, or the poor drone they got working on this problem...to give us a realistic update on the status of this service and if we should all be clammering for our money back for this portion of the item, or for those waiting ot use the service, should they be getting ready to use it as it's going to be back in service (INSERT DEFITIVE DATE HERE)...

And perhaps i'm going overboard on the whole legality problem, but if someone sells you a car and claims it has A/C does it count if the air conditioning actually occurs when you roll down your windows on a cold day ???

Player: As far as I'm concerned, EA doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Wilki: As far as I'm concerned we're doing what is best for the service, and will update you when we have fixed the issue that led us to disable the service.

We're not happy that it had to be taken offline just as the 8th age was released either, but the alternative is clearly not an option.

When I have more information, I'll be sure to update uo.com. Until then, please read what is currently posted there, as that is the current information on char xfer.

Thanks.

Wilki: Since I'm here, let me just say that threatening legal action is one of the worst ways to get me or anyone else from EA from communicating with you on a particular subject.

If your goal is to get us to respond on something, you might want to think about that before you post.
Wilki: Asking about it is perfectly valid, and I *am* trying to get an update for you guys. But it's not quite as cut and dry of an issue as some might think it is. It's not like we're doing something routine where we can say, "Ok, this is going to take 20 man hours, and we're going to apply 3 people to the project, so it will be done tomorrow at 3pm."

I'm sorry if I sounded terse in my previous message, that wasn't my intent. But the "legal action" stuff is really going overboard, especially when you consider exactly *why* character xfer is offline.

It's a high priority issue for us, and has been continuously worked on since we discovered the problem. Unfortunately, it's not qutie as simple as we had hoped it would be at the outset. Since my last update turned out to be wildly off the mark (a few days is now more than a week), I'd rather not make that same mistake twice.

Thank you for being patient. :-)
Player: seem to think that whoever created this shard might also be the same person or persons that are looking into the repair of the transfer system.
Wilki: The designers who were working on the Halloween shard on their own personal time have no knowledge of the character transfer system, and thus are not involved in fixing it in the slightest bit.

Heh.. I cant tell you firsthand as somebody who threatened legal action against EA in the past... not a good idea... completely unrelated to the above of course...

they cant sue ea.

a siege player can use the transfer and advanced character on non siege shard. they chose to not use there, that theyre falt.

theyre not restricted from using it.

but mr spyderbite, what did ea do to you?

As far as Siege goes, this is all about the 8th Age gifts. If you claim the code on one shard, you get ALL the tokens at once. So... if you claim it on Siege for the soulstone, guess what? You get the transfer and advanced character token ON SIEGE! In other words, no... they CAN'T use them on another shard, and therein lies the problem.

That's correct. I changed my post to reflect the Siege transfer/advance character token problems.

I have no idea why char transfer is currently down, but here's the deal:

Character Transfer Service Oct 20 2005 4:52AM GMT (PST +08:00)
We are currently undergoing maintenance on the character transfer server. We are working to have the service restored as soon as possible. We apologize for any incovenience and thank you for your patience.
Been 12 days now. Guess it was pretty screwed up, eh? Maybe another dupe fix?

well.. character transfers did cause shards to crash just after pub umm i cant remember the number... whenever i caused sonoma to crash maybe they didnt fix it right then so they haveta change some stuff.. *shrug* wouldnt you be put-out if your character spontaniously dissapeared when you transfered from one shard to another?probably what they are trying to stop happening or something

Re: Angry Player Threatening Lawsuit

It was taken down due to an exploit there were fixing I believe....it had something to do with a safety issue.

It has been down for a long time..but I would much rather they take the time and fix a security issue. Char Transfer will always come back.
