Am I quitting? Nah, but mining is in the toilet unexpectedly

I have spent the last 2 nights doing some mining. I was low on stock, the miner is about 89 in Mining. Yeah, the random resources have messed up my runebooks really well, but I did not expect the REAL side effect ...

My mining has gained only 1.2 in 2 nights (about 5 hours total) and most of that is GGS. Why? Because many of the higher gains are based on locating the tough ores to dig up. Because those ores are now factors more difficult to find, my mining skill gain is pretty well screwed.

Over 2000 in iron ingots and about 600 total in Dull Copper, Shadow, Copper and Gold. Oh yeah, a whopping 4 ingots of Bronze - huge whoop! I can gain Chiv and Focus (both 98+) faster by simple gameplay, than I can Mining. I guess my Lumberjacking will be the same. I was pretty much doing a wait-and-see on the changes and tried to take an objective stance until I had time to really run through things.

Devs? I gotta side with the bulk of the others here ... it messed with us very badly and I would like to see some return to prior status. Honest. Please don't dumb down skill gain, but reset the resources please. Even if Valorite is not where a rune says, runes can be redone. Please?

"What took ya so long?" " I told you so, dammit!"

Were you using prospector tools by chance? just thinking aloud that they may help you gain perhaps.

Has gaining mining always been like this? I was under the impression that the type of ore did not affect gains.

I've always GM'd on iron and I don't remember Mining to be one of the harder skills to GM.

Hmm, I'll ask Wilki to look into that this week - off the top of my head, skill gain from actual mining (as opposed to smelting) shouldn't be affected, but it's been a long time since I GMed it.

One thing I will add here for our readers if you are planning on gm'ing mining remember you can gain on smelting. Make sure if you dig up the ore commensurate with your lvl you single smelt the pieces. Dont just smelt the whole stack at a time, 1 large or 2 small at a time will give you more opportunities for gains Mining gloves and prospector tools are a super plus to get to gm so use them where you can but still follow the mining guide Baldguy has posted here it works perfectly having gm'ed 5 miners using it.
