Account Security and the Security Challenge Question

In order to add an extra layer of password security, new accounts are required to choose a security challenge question and answer. However, existing accounts can also add this - and we strongly recommend that all our players do so. Instructions after the jump:

To add a security challenge question to your account, please do the following:

- Visit the Account Management page.
- Select "Create Account." (Yes, this is counterintuitive.)
- Select "Already have a member account" and log in using your EA member account. NOTE: this may be different than your UO account name - in particular, older accounts may follow the pattern "uo_youruoaccountname."
- The next screen should give you the option to select a security question.
Follow all prompts to create a security challenge question and answer.

Type carefully, and choose an answer that only you would know.

This security question will be used whenever someone requests a password for that account. If you forget your answer, you will have to contact Customer Support to get it reset. We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this feature!

Its good to see improvements on acct security. My Fidelity & Vanguard Mutual Fund Accts use security pictures as well as "Security challenge questions" and would love to see EA implement something like that in the future.

It is about time they announced this. It was pretty hilarious how a certain group of people tried causing a bunch of trouble when this was in testing, claiming certain people were getting special protection.

They added a bit to the instructions (bolded by me below)

- Hit "Cancel" - unless, of course, you want to actually create another UO account The security question will be applied to your account.

Has anyone been able to get this to work? It rejects my username and p/w yet when I go to edit existing, I get in without a problem.

So I clicked forgot my p/w, twice. That was about 20 mins ago no email yet! Makes me wonder who was sent my p/w?

Some folks are having problems with not receiving the email for forgot password ...
anyone else having the same problem, or any other problems?

Here is a thread that began on UOHall which might enable us to help each other figure out why it is working for some and not for others.

So far mine are working ...

"omg, now I think about it, it happend to me too. At first, I didn't know my username so i hit the retrival button and a slew of username came to me. But few minutes later. In the mean time, I hit the password retreival button but no emails came. I hope it didnt randomly go to someone eslse. I was however, able to add in the security questions later but haven't tried it since.

Please tell me Jeremy that password retrival if it didnt work before the security question that it was because EA just didn't send it and not because EA send it to joe smith in some other country.

I tried to go and do this, but after the login screen, I just get a screen wanting me to enter a registration number. pththt..
