Vision in my one eye

I wasn't sure which place to put this, and if it needs to be moved to the appropriate place I won't be offended (thanks).

Occasionally, I've been having this 'shimmer' in one of my eyes..it's happening right now, in my right eye, half the eye can see clear the other half has this shimmer where i see blurry edges and like i'm looking through a prism (not sure if that makes sense). I'm not overly concerned about it as it usually goes away, but not sure if I should be? It doesn't happen horribly often and it's never been a major inconvenience, but wondering what I should do about it?

Dear Wondering from St Louis

I suggest going for an eye exam, just to be safe hun. Cant leave something like that alone. Eye sight is very important.

Im sure it just may be something on your eye or whatever, but cant hurt to be cautious right?

My eye twitches when Im stressed.

Re: Vision in my one eye

Could be alot of things...my best guess (if it is of consistent size/shape/location) would be weak Suspensory Ligaments. Theyre what hold you lens and allow you to focus.

Could be something in the fluid of your eye too. Like when you see "stars," that is little bits of sedimented protein that have gotten jostled and are now in the path of your vision...

Id jump over the Optometrist and go straight to an Opthamologist as the former dont have their MD. Dependng on your insurance, you might have to go se your primary care first though.

While there is a good possibility of it being absolutely nothing, Id definitely go get it checked out by someone.

As an added boost for you to get thhis checked out (not too scare you too badly) Glaucoma is among the possibilities. With this, the pressure inside your eye changes, leading to a few things including loss of prepheral vision and in some cases blindness. Typically a disease of the geriatric population (say over 65 years old) it can happen at different ages.

Dont mean to freak you out...just motivate you.

Take care.

Yup what they said. Get it checked out, it could be nothing, but better safe than sorry right?

Ya know when you see those little dots that you can't quite focus on because they always seem to scoot away when you look at them? A woman on tv said they are guardian angels. Seriously. I think she is on drugs.

I agree with everyone. Go see a doc. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Vision in my one eye

i've also been told you shouldn't have your vision checked when you're pregnant due to softening ligaments...could THAT have something to do with it?

Re: Vision in my one eye

Maybe ask your OB/GYN. Vision problems can be a warning about all types of illnesses. I didn't have any vision problems when I was pregnant. *shrug*

Re: Vision in my one eye

The problem is with the brain, not the eye. It sounds to me like this is possibly an ocular migrane - which can occur without the severe headache for which migranes are commonly known.

*Just an opinion. This is in no way an attempt to create a doctor/patient relationship.

Re: Vision in my one eye

An interesting point with the possibility of it being located in the vision center in the brain...the way the optic nerves are set up, it actually makes a good deal of sense.

Ive had migraines in the past (havent had one in almost a year, *knocks wood*) and have definitely had a few that carried visual disturbances...

That being said, pregnancy does some VERY strange things to your body and efects every woman a bit differently.

Do us all a favor, and just drop the OB a line about the problem. I think everyone will feel a bit better if they say "Its nothing."
