What are the top scary monsters in your view, from books, movies, folklore, whatever? And why?

I think vampires have to be up in my top ten. From Dracula, to Lestat, and countless others, the vampire has been a creature of mystery, horror, and at times, romance. The vampire can take on several guises, and talents, according to the imagination of the writer/reader. From Vlad the Impaler to Count Alucard, he is a hard man to nail down... no pun intended!

The blob!

No, kidding, but I think Freddy in his prime was the worst.

I would have to say Werewolves...I mean sure Vampires are kinda scary but they don't kill randomly and when they normally don't kill at all if you look in to ture Vamplore...then generally keep most thier victoms alive to feed on, don't get me wrong it would suck to be a vamps bedtime snack nightly but they do take care of thier meals, keeping them well fed, all that good stuff.

The blob, scary....kinda but in the long run you can get away from it easily, it's not really that fast. I can be afraid of something when my normal walking strides are enough to get away from it .

Now Werewolves, sure they only strike during full moons and the other 2 you would have to worry about pretty much every night. A werewolf however, Kills, and they do it randomly. When they do it they rip you apart limb from limb and don't care whatcha feel like, I mean on the vamp side of things least for the most part you get a good lay b4 they start drinking lol. Werewolf though, there's no wham, bam, and thank you mam/sir. It's just a Rip, tear, wish you weren't there kinda thing . Not to mention if you happen to survive a werewolf attack you have no choice you are a werewolf and have to live with the curse.

With vampires you have to be "Turned" or created in a since, they can bite you and feed from you forever if they wanted to and you would have no fear of becoming one. Last I checked you only make the Blob larger, you don't really "Become" a blob yourself lol.

My favorites are Jason, Michael Myers and Freddy... however, I'd have to say the scariest would have to be... BARNEY!!! He scares me baaaadddd

We have old stories from where I came from, I can't really translate the names.

There's the tik-tik that preys on pregnant women. Sucks the fetus out of the womb.

There's the manananggal, they're normal ladies during the day. But at night, their bodies split in half at the waist, and they grow wings and prey on anyone that's out at night.

We have a lot of monsters.

The Manananggal is a type of vampire from the stories I've heard of them, one of the nastier ones like the Nosferatu from what I've seen.

the clown from IT has to be one of the more disturbing monsters for me..

Vampires have always been creatures that ive kinda envied. theyve always seemed timeless and awake, leading lives of meaning, feeding on the mundane drones whose lives are empty and trite.

ACK! Yes, clowns are not really considered a scary monster/creature I suppose. They have always freaked me out however.

And another thing that STILL freaks me out to this day: dolls. Yes, that's right, dolls. Stuffed animals too. I might have been the only child who had a screaming fit if she had to go to sleep with a stuffed animal in the room. I just KNEW that as soon as I feel asleep, they would get up and start moving around, doing who knows what. I hate dolls with a passion. Never have liked them, never will lol.

Not to sound stupid but I think zombies scare the crap out of me... many views of zombies of them being mindless, uncaring, cold, and seeking for your brain and just totally biting through your skull and ripping it away for your brain totally creeps me out. How they stagger about and staring at your with thier lifeless eyes... thier skin bruised and showing thier veins well defined through thier skin in a very unlifely colour and still able to walk about... no.

I do not like that idea of the zombie at all, I watch movie no problem and them being in video games but how I see them in dreams and such *shivers*

When I was a kid, Zelda (I think that was the name) from the movie The Pet Sematary scared the crap out of me. She was just so warped and creepy and she laughed at some point.

Laughter freaks me out, those are the worst scenes in the Evil Dead movies too... whenever all the nutty meanies just cackle.
