Scam Alert

ok.. im not sure if i should be worried or if someone is just trying to scam me..

this morning i check my mail and find 4 transactions from my paypal account... i flip.. i havn't used it in a while and all the transactions are for Ipods totalling around 1k.. I run to my antivirus and start a check.. I run to paypal and change the password, and i change the password on the email... then.. I look at my account summary.. it doesn't mention any of these transactions.. yes, i went to paypal.com not any of the links in the email..

anyway.. the emails look very authentic, but the account page doesn't mention anything about the transactions... am I missing something or is someone just trying to get me to click on the "dispute this transaction" like in the paypal email?

Re: Scam Alert

I would guess it is a phishing email. Glad you didn't click on any links in the email. I do recommend that you forward the email to PayPal. I think it is spoof@paypal.com . They can/will check into it.

Re: Scam Alert

It was a phishing email. Forward the suspect emails to spoof@paypal.com as has already been advised. You'll get a reply from paypal as to whether it was genuine or not.

Never click a link in such an email. If you suspect the email itself, change your password at paypal by typing the address in your browser's address window, not by clicking any links.

Re: Scam Alert

I called the guy who i supposedly bought 4 ipods off of.. apperantly he has gotten a lot of calls about this... he confirmed it was a scam... I sent the emails to paypal (thanks for the addy)

hopefully everyone else will watch out for this and go straight to paypal.com to invistgate it issue.. I learned a while ago NEVER use the links in strange emails.

Re: Scam Alert

Yea sounds like a fishing scam
As far as I know, Paypal doesn't send out recent transaction histories, at least, i've never got one.

Re: Scam Alert

That is why when I never click the link on the e-mail. I always type the address myself.

I also use MailWasher to proof read my e-mails and 'bounce' all those back to sender as undeliverable. It's a shame they have taught us to be so paranoid.

...just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
