I'd also see if you could maybe ask to make up time if at all possible. Like say, your probably going to be gone all next week, can you work extra weekends to make up for lost time?

Well, the way it looks, Ill be able to go in Tuesday. Maybe Monday too but if Im up all night and have both kids solo again Monday night, Ill be screwed...

Alls FMLA does (to my knowledge) is hold onto your job. You still have to go through your personal earned vacation/sick time. Either way, Im a coupla months short of a year there. Actually, I think May 17th is my one year...that stinks, eh?

Sorry to hear it, but glad it's "just" the gall bladder. She'll be fine without it.
I'll wish and pray for better days for you and yours!
Keep your head up!

FMLA for the employee - protects their job while they miss time. Its useful for cancer patients etc... so say you have a lot of doctors appointments or Chemo etc. If they replace your job for whatever reason they have to give you another job with he same wages.
FMLA for the employer - Requires employee to provide documentation on miss time... Some times its to gather info they couldn't normally ask for. But mostly to ensure the employee pays their contributions for their health insurance and to let them know after 90 days most insurance companies require you terminate their insurance and issue cobra.

It stinks because at least you could protect your job while you miss all this time Good Luck Kettle, If I could drive up there and babysit I would!

Re: The saga continues...

Here in the UK some employers offer 'flexi time' where you work a set amount of hours but as and when you want to .Its a great pity your employer cant accomodate family employess with a similar scheme, for such emergencies.

Anyway I wish you all the best over the coming days, and hope it passess relatively smoothly.

Re: The saga continues...

As to the "just the gallbladder" comments, you are very right. I was a bit worried that it may have been something more serious but her symptoms never really progressed into anything that seemed more serious.

Its a laproscopic procedure and they said that she will definitely be going home Tuesday, unseen circumstances aside.

As far as my luck goes, its actually usualy pretty good. I guess we are paying back for all the good luck weve had over the past few years.

As far as getting the hours in, I probably could get in to work, but that would sadly sacrifice sleep completely until Tuesday night. Im pretty tough bu the closest Ive ever come to 72 hours (when hallucinations and temporary demetia can start to occur) was about 56, if memory serves. I was really punchy and hada f ew close calls on my ride home...

Honestly, driving that tired is worse than being the legal limit for alcohol consuption...probably on par with .2 breathalyzer result (.08 is legal limit, .4 would be an alcohol induced coma leading to death if untreated in all but the most heavy drinkers.)

Ive been up since 6am yesterday morning and am feeling pretty close .08. Been walking into things all morning...even droppeda few things on the ground, which I never do.

Agreed, once you hit the car take a nap, I use my phone's alarm to wake me. But yeah, pull over and take that short nap, keep a bottle of water in the car. A quick drink and a wipe of the face will help.

Also, if your start nodding off or blinking for longer than 5 seconds, slapping yourself works for a few minutes. And not a little sissy slap either, you gotta reach back and let yourself have it, if your not turning your own head, your not slapping hard enough.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
