So, Meghan had been having some digestive issues at the end of last week and beginning of this one. General upset stomach, some pain, that kind of thing.
Now, my wife has been on medication for anxiety throughout much of her early adult life. That all had to stop when we started trying to get pregnant as most head meds arent good for little babies. I was pretty concerned at first, but I have to say taht she had been handing far better than anyone (herself included) had hoped for almost 2 years. I figured that it was finally getting the best of her with everything going on. When she woke me up Wednesday morning doubled over with pain and nausea, it was timne to go to the doctor. They drew some lab work, took a couple x-rays (that were read as negative) and gave her some Protonix figuring that it was probably an ulcer from stress. She had her first ulcer when she was in her early teens and has had a few. Hence why she was on medication for Anxiety. The labs werent back Wednesday evening, so it was a wait and see game. Thursday she woke up feeling quite a bit better and we were both relieved and happy. Then the doctors office called... Her Amylase (a digestive enzyme secreted by the pancreas) was a little over 10x the normal amount. She was told to go to the hospital so they could admit her for pancreatitis. After 6 hours in the ER, more lab work and an CT Scan, the general consensus was that it was fairly mild, but she needed to be monitored overnight at least. The nest day she had an Ultrasound that showed that she had gallstones. This was the cause of the pancreatitis as blocking the common bile duct really makes the pancreas mad. She had a surgical consult yesterday and she will definitely need to have her gallbladder out at some point, but probably not immediately. She is seeing the surgeon again today to get an update on labs and the status quo... Ill tell ya; around here, when it rains, it pours. At least they can manage the pain well and she is getting better sleep than if she was around here... |

Re: The saga continues...
Best wishes Kettle. It's going to be a bumpy road for a little bit, then it's just recovery from there. Hope all goes well.

Re: The saga continues...
Im heading up to see her now. My mother in law and aunt in law are taking the boys to a baseball game because my father in law is the coach and loves to have them in the audience.
![]() Hopefully the surgeon will come in to see her while I am there. Always help to have someone who is not on pain meds there to ask the important questions... |

Re: The saga continues...
Oy so sorry to hear!! Gallbladder attacks are SO painful. The good news is, once the gallbladder is removed, the symptoms are gone like magic (or like a bodily organ being removed from said body). I had a similar series of incidents 10 years ago, and... I don't miss my gallbladder a bit!!
Hope your wife is feeling better! I remember the painkillers being VERY sweet.

Re: The saga continues...
Yar, they have her on Dilaudid (?sp) because she is allergic to morpheine so at least that helps. I personally think that they should throw some Xanax at her too because she is ultra-stressed about being away from the kids. Cant be helping the situation :/
When I got there, the surgeon was seeing her and he felt pretty strongly about getting the gallbladder out asap so she is scheduled up to have it yanked on Monday. Kinda stinks because I burnt all my vacation and sick time for paternity leave but we arent in financial dire straits atm... Im just hoping that they dont start giving me a hard time about insurance. Thoeretically, Im supposed to be there (or have earned time to make up) at least 38 hours a week to get the rate on insurance that I get. I dont remember them ever getting to hyped up about with other people that had to be out unpaid for any length of time, so it shouldnt be an issue... |

Have you been there for a year? I know you switched hospitals. Ask for your FMLA if you have. Is it possible that she could be in the same hospital you work at so you can visit? That would be sweet!

Re: The saga continues...
I'd also see if you could maybe ask to make up time if at all possible. Like say, your probably going to be gone all next week, can you work extra weekends to make up for lost time?

Re: The saga continues...
Well, the way it looks, Ill be able to go in Tuesday. Maybe Monday too but if Im up all night and have both kids solo again Monday night, Ill be screwed...
Alls FMLA does (to my knowledge) is hold onto your job. You still have to go through your personal earned vacation/sick time. Either way, Im a coupla months short of a year there. Actually, I think May 17th is my one year...that stinks, eh? |
