Odd type of lag...
taken from thread Odd type of lag... UO Tech
########################### Sporadically I and up with lag issues while trying to talk in-game(type) wether its spatial or in party or guild channels. During the lag, I type out what I want to say and it takes forever to actually appear letter by letter and go into game chat though I can move around lag free and others talking to me is lag free. Any ideas or suggestions? ############################ Spada EA UO Lead Game Master Hello Dreadlord Lestat, Text can sometimes have issues, ironically it can be caused by the way your video card handles the text being displayed (which is drawn differently then the game itself) It could also be that another application is running in the background that is taking up CPU Cycles, and is affecting the rate at which your text is being inputted. My recommendations would be to quit or close out any applications running in the background (via the task manager) Disable Anti-Virus and Crash Guard programs. To do this, find the icon for the program on the Windows taskbar. Right-click on the icon and select "close", "disable" or the relevant option. Close Background tasks in (Windows 2000. XP) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, tap the Delete key. Select Task Manager Click the Applications tab. Click on the name of the program in the list and click on End Task Repeat this process until all the background task are closed. Close Background tasks in (Windows ME, 98, 95) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, tap the Delete key. Click on the name of the program in the list and click on End Task Repeat this process until only Explorer and Systray remain. As well, close any extra tasks. Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called "Task Manager". You will then see 5 tabs; Applications, Processes, Performance, networking, and Users. Select the Processes tab; this will list all current programs that are running. Close all programs that have your login ID next to them. Your user ID is listed in the second column next to the program name. Also, do not close any applications that say "System" next to them. Be sure not to close a program labeled "Explorer" or "Taskmgr" as well. You close each one of these applications by clicking on each one and hitting the button "End Process". Note some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system. If after closing all other programs and tasks you don't see any improvement, then try updating the video and sound card drivers. If you still don't see improvement please contact our technical support team at support.ea.com and follow the instructions in this article Please make sure to include a copy of your dxdiag report as an attachment. Good luck! ![]() ![]() |
