NOT FAIR! Their NPCs are better than ours!

The one thing I did notice after playing a few months of Final Fantasy XI was how much cooler the NPCs were. They talk in-character. It's enjoyable to read what they say and do business with them.

UO? We've got idiots who just stand there. You buy from them. You sell to them. You beg them for BODs. Blah. The average quest givers are just insulting. "HEY YOU! COME HERE! I'LL GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO EARN SOME EASY GOLD!" or whatever the heck they say. Even the "good' quest giving NPCs aren't very interesting.

And the personal attendants? Well, it is funny when the herald reminds you not to eat reagents. And I like the guides.

But don't get me wrong. We finally have an ENT for goodness sake! Yay! And we can customize our houses. (It's just not a single room only accesable by a single player character.)

But.... another cool thing about FF XI is the auction house. You go to the building, put up an item for auction and set a price. A few days later, you check your in-game mail box and the gold for the item you auctioned off is in there. Easy. Sure beats spamming at Brit bank for an hour, waiting for someone to buy what you have to sell.

That is one of the things I really like about WoW too. The Auction House. You can buy what you need without having to sit and spam you need it, or spam to sell it. It does all the work for you, and you dont have to search 500 vendors to find what you need either. UO should adopt this program.

Back in the beginning of UO, the npc characters were much more responsive. Richard Garriot was very proud of the fact that when you spoke to an npc, it was just like speaking to a pc. Unfortunately all that went by the wayside with "localization". I believe the reason was that it became too difficult to have a naturally responding npc operate in all the languages UO was running. I agree that it was a great loss.

I am impressed with a Beta's and WoW's Npcs. UO does have alot of catchingup to do.
