IIS = Anyone had any experience setting this up?
I want to get a domain working on a windows based server but can't get my head around this IIS stuff
Does anyone have any experience setting this up? |

Yah... was on the team @ MS that worked with hosting companies to implement it, but that was many, many versions ago.. what version of MS Server you putting it on?

Well, I don't know about others, but in the realm I work, we often don't use IIS. You can get around it by setting up DHCP and DNS with windows to work just as well. Active Directory stuff is just evil and filled with holes for the inexperienced.
A Unix/Linux box will do the job much better for domain management to include DHCP, DNS, and login functions. Good Luck,

Nowadays, IIS is usually reserved for Intranets and even that's diminishing now that document sharing and such is supported on Apache as well. I'd go with Tef's suggestion as well.. just don't forget to install the ASP package. I seem to recall that it doesn't install by default and its absence causes some funky things to happen on PhP websites.. even those that don't utilize any active server documents.

Aye with Apache, also setting up SAMBA isn't too bad either for shared drive/file access.
