I need some search help/ideas
There is a story here I have heard, and I want to find some info to actually prove it. I've spoken to a few people that remember it happening, but I want to see some hard proof, not hearsay.
The story: In the 80's, in San Antonio, Texas, a reporter named Jack Flowers was doing a live on-air segment about something. Suddenly a man rushed up, grabbed Flowers, and held a gun to his head. The man, who turned out to be an escaped inmate from a mental hospital, started ranting that Flowers and the news media were all beaming commands into his head to kill his ex-wife. This went on for quite a while, live on-air. Flowers remained calm, and at one point had almost talked the man into releasing the gun. Then a policeman jumped the gunman from behind, and in the struggle, Flowers was shot and killed. Sounds almost like an urban legend, doesn't it? Those are facts I have been able to get from older people around, since I was too young to remember this incident. I can't find any documentation of it online tho. The story gets better.... After the gunman was subdued and jailed, it was found his ex-wife had been murdered in her home. The television station had gone back to regular programming that evening. However... suddenly the police phone lines, as well as the telephone lines at the TV station were overloaded. In the middle of a show, Jack Flowers came on air. He thanked the people for all their support over the years, and asked that the gunman be forgiven because he did not really know what he was doing. Flowers talked for about 60 seconds, then the show came back on. At the time of this short message, Flowers had been dead for over four hours. I know, it sounds like something I am making up. I swear I am not tho. I have looked everywhere trying to find some documentation of that 60 second broadcast. I've tried Yahoo, Ask, Google, Wikipedia, and several other search engines. Does anyone have any ideas where else I can look? ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. Some choose to grow strong at the broken places. --Harold J. Re: I need some search help/ideas
Hm, just tried youtube and nothing.
I've tried looking up John Flowers too, unless Jack was a nickname, but no luck. ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. Some choose to grow strong at the broken places. --Harold J. Duarte-Bernhardt ![]() Thanks to Atlas for the fantastic sig! |

Re: I need some search help/ideas
I'm positive the last name was Flowers. I heard it being discussed on the radio. They said Jack, but I don't know if that was a nickname, short for something else, or real. Since I heard it talked about, I don't even know if "Flowers" is the right spelling for the name.
There has to be some documentation somewhere. San Antonio is a huge city, and a lot of people saw the shooting happen, and even more saw the 60 second broadcast since it was during prime time. ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. That's a very interesting story Adri. If you happen to find it, let us know. I'll try and see if I can find something too.

Re: I need some search help/ideas
The TV station officially denies that the 60 second broadcast ever occurred, according to my verbal sources. It's worth a shot tho, if I can find out which one it was lol.

Re: I need some search help/ideas
seems i vaguely remember this...yes I am that old...but I believe that the station was playing a clip of the reporter as a sort of tribute and the statement where he asked the people to forgive the gunman was something he had said while he was being held at gunpoint and the station played the sound bite along with the clip and things got stretched out of proportion and it became an urban legend...at least that's how i remember it...like everyone else though i have no proof of this
