Angry Help! I can't flush my toilet!

Help! I can’t flush my toilet! We’ll not mine thank goodness, but our bathroom upstairs isn’t getting any water. It seems like the water might not even be making it into the pipe? I can’t hear it (sound it makes when you turn it off and back on). No water is coming into the toilet and the bathtub is slow draining (not sure if that has anything to do with it). Anyone know anything about plumbing? I would be eternally grateful for any help

Re: Help! I can't flush my toilet!

to start, the bathtub train would have nothing to do with the toilet intake.. I don't suppose anyone has been playing with any of the valves? most probable is the one one the toilet in the bathroom itself?

Im guessing this is a recent issue, and i also assume that all of the pluming in your place is conected to one main which conects to either town water or a well.. if this is the case, it is unlikely that water just suddenly stopped flowing through the pipes. is the tub in the bathroom connected to the same pipeline as the toilet?

Ive never heard of the intake pipes (usually 1/2 inch copper pipe) getting clogged.. you aren't having any other problems around the house, or in the same general area as your toilet are u?

Re: Help! I can't flush my toilet!

No one has been playing with the valves that I know of. A week ago the water was trickling into the tank, and now it’s not even trickling. I checked the valve under the toilet and it’s on, when I turned it off, and then on full blast nothing happened. So now my mom has to fill a bucket up from the tub and pour it into the tank so she can flush it.

We’re connected to city water, but I haven’t noticed any other issues with water except for my own toilet. A few weeks ago my toilet kept while I was checking it out my mom decided to help and don’t ask me how but broke the handle to the toilet (the bar that connects to the flange) So I went to Home Depot and they didn’t have any angle mounted handles, only these ones you have to bend. I totally hulked out on it but could not get t to bed enough so it rubs the inside of the tank and sometimes you really have to hold the handle down to get the toilet to flush all the way.

God I hope its not the pipes! *dies*

Thanks for your help Dra'ki Areese

Well if you lift up the back and check inside the tank check to see if the plug thing is jammed and contantly draining the water out(which would explain the toliet not filling up and you being able to hear something.

But Honestly I DON'T know anything about plumbing, I do know a few things about pipes though......

Re: Help! I can't flush my toilet!

actually, if the pipes and the valves are fine... it could be something to do with the internal parts.. I highly doubt its the pipes.. in order for it to be them they would either have to have corroded to the point they were not allowing water through, in which case you would probably have problems through out the house... or they would need to be crimped.. which is something that just doesn't happen by itself...

chances are, its the internal parts of the toilet. you said you had to replace it, so that is almost certainly where the problem lies... pardon my lack of terminology as my experience lies in fixing up my own home and not as a professional... but there is basically a switch in the tank that floats on the water.. when it reaches a certain point it closes the intake. if that switch is stuck in the closed position it would prevent you from getting water into your tank.. depending on the parts you put in your toilet, that maybe and probably is the problem...

but... its really hard to judge from the forums.. and like I said, I'm just a do it yourself home owner... good luck, I hope this helps
