I have lost all information on my work computer. When I left yesterday, my computer was fine. When I come in this morning, everything is gone.
When I came to work here, the girl before me had a password set on this computer for the admin profile. She created a new user for me until she left. When she left, she took password off admin account. Since thats where all the work documents were saved, thats the profile I used. But I never deleted the other one she set up. I left work yesterday and my computer was just fine. I came in this morning and computer logged into the alternate profile. with no documents, no address book, no nothing. Not even word perfect. This sux because now all the work I have done is gone. I am a legal secretary with almost 100 clients. Every letter, chart, form, everything is gone. Now I have to start over from scratch. Anyone ever had this happen or heard of it? i restored my computer back to yesterday before I left in a vain hope that would fix it, but to no avail. ANd to make it worse, I thought a couple of weeks ago I had lost my address book, but I fixed it. I asked the book keeper to get me a real rolodex. and I never got it. if anyone can think of anything I may can do, I would appreciate it. If not, I guess I will start with the A's all over again.:new_cussing:

Hmm, what operating system are ya using?
One thing I do know, well kinda, is XP/2000 stores each person's profile/documents in the "Documents and settings" folder in your C drive

If you goto my computer, then C drive, then double click Documents and Settings
See if there's folders in there with different names

I have to agree with Adam. Make sure you logged in on your "normal" account. Hope that is all that is wrong. Other wise without a backup . Not any fun at all.

Ouch... That's happened to me here at work. I'm lucky because the company has a back-up of everything work related in their servers. The last time my computer crashed, after they did the re-imaging, I was lucky enough to find out that I lost only a few months worth of work. That's was better than losing everything.

Im on XP and of course there is no back up. I went to the c: and there is an administrator folder (what the old profile was named) but when i try to open it, it tells me access is denied (of course) and I can't log on to any other profile, even the guest account is gone. So it looks as if everything is gone. As for re-imaging, i wish. There are 5 people (including me) in my office and I am the only one who knows anything about this but unfortunatley not high enough on the totem pole to make a difference regarding "management" decisions. Maybe next time they will listen to me..........

If the admin folder is there, then the admin logon should still work

Hmm, if you try and login as "administrator", does it not work anymore? maybe the I.T department set a password on it?
