Gas Prices and why americans are whinning.....

Sorry for the title

But seriously you guys are whinny little brats, I just worked out the gas prices up here in Canada.(I live 15 minutes from the Maine Boarder).

I gave the average of 2.85 for gas prices(I heard it was 2.90 across and someone just told me they are getting it for 2.80), this is all in Gallons.
Its currently a STEADY 1.15 per litre where I am at.
There are 3.785 Litres per Gallon. And currently the canadian dollar is .89 US cents.
Anyone wanna do the math?

Well here is the Math:
$3.87 per Gallon for Canadian Gas(thats in US currency).
83.5 Cents Per Litre for American Gas(In Canadian Currency)

So why are you guys complaining again?
Sorry just didn't realize I was getting robbed so badly at the pumps when I could just drive across and get it cheaper than on a Native Reserve....
So nobody in the US is going to complain about the Gas again will ya now

Sure I will. When my family spends more in gas and heating than on groceries in a month, there's a reason to complain. We live in a small town and have to travel a good distance to make any kind of reasonable money. Before you tell me to go get a vehicle that isn't a gas guzzler(which btw, my vehicles are very good on gas), or to move closer to a big city where we wouldn't have to travel so much, let me just say that it isn't as easy as that. When you have a family, you do what you can to survive. Why uproot everyone and everything only to add more to your expenses with a house payment or a new car payment? The options are there to make things better but in the long run, they aren't always what they seem. I may be a whiny little brat, but I have a family to take care of and the only way to do that is to travel to work to make a somewhat decent living for them which has been cut to a smaller amount with the amount of gas we need to purchase each week.

It's supposed to be 1.30 a litre by the end of the summer (that's 3.50 US/gallon)

And this is the best our dollar has been in years...so it's kind of a bonus to us. Doesn't make it any less stressful for anyone...

With discounts we are still getting our gas for under a dollar in Alberta...but when you do a lot of driving around, or have a big truck it's hell.

It's been 1.21/litre here where I am. The lowest it's gone the last couple of weeks is 1.19/litre.

And until it's cheaper to take public transit than driving our car/truck everyday I'll keep paying for gas.

Cost of living does factor in no matter where you live, whiny or not.

but I agree with SoccerMom...and yes I also am a whiny American. We live on one income at the moment with now three kids...we do what we have to to survive...and if the gas prices keep going the way they have, I will continue to whine. so no more name calling, kthx.

We also don't make as much per hour in our jobs as Canadians do.
Thadia says minimum wage in Alberta is $7 an hour.
In the US federal minimum wage is 5.15 per hour (notice the nearly $2 difference per hour) and our minimum wage hasn't increased since 1996.
They are talking about raising it to $7.25. I wonder what they will raise our gas prices to after they do that!

Re: Gas Prices and why americans are whinning.....

I live in Texas too. Go out to west Texas and drive around for miles in some of the more deserted areas. You will see hundreds of oil rigs... all not working, just sitting there. Go to the gulf, look out into the water, and see the offshore oil rigs, a lot of them closed down. The oil is there, but it is not being pulled up. Why? Because of the longhorn pipeline.

They had to close the pipeline because people were complaining about it being tooo close to some certain residental areas. It smelled funny. No, guys, that is the smell of MONEY. Now, it has been a big huge battle for years about wether to reopen it or not, or to try and rebuild another one. In the meantime, we are buying oil from other countries.

Why don't people just stfu and allow us to get our OWN oil from our own territories, and perhaps then prices would go down a bit.

Nevermind land prices! In Hudson, MA the cheapest house you can find is over 200k. And thats a real toilet of a house....

Do Canadians have income tax? If so, is it comparable to the 34-35% Uncle Sam takes out of my check? More if I work an overtime shift. And lets not forget the $100 plus per week that I have to pay for Health Insurance for the fam....

I dunno, Im sure there are things up there that are more expensive, but it aint a rose garden down here...

Heh, not sure how the taxes compare to here, but they're pretty steep here to.

We get taxed twice per pay check, National insurance and general tax.
Mind you, we don't require health insurance, as it's free here.
Minimum wage here is - $9.44 an hour
