Re: DirectX 9 vs DirectX 10

How do you know if your graphics card "supports" direct X 10? Because I one time had a graphics card that wouldn't support I think it was direct X 7...

Not sure directx 10 would justify upgrading to vista

Re: DirectX 9 vs DirectX 10

The only graphics cards that support directX 10 to my knowledge are the Nvidia 8 series. I dunno about any else, but those images shown there were done on an Nvidia 8800GTX card, I believe.

I have an Nvidia 7800GTX card, which was top of the line a year or so ago, and it doesn't support directx 10. It might later when drivers are made for it, but at the moment it doesn't.

edit: forgot to mention, that's all real time rendering, so that water looks like that all the time during game play. Crazy isn't it?!

Re: DirectX 9 vs DirectX 10

The numbers just mean the series type. Each series are similar cards, but the higher numbered versions have more memory and run faster.

Yours will not run directx 10 unfortunately

Re: DirectX 9 vs DirectX 10

Yeah, neither do I. I won't bother upgrading to vista till I find out if I need to get a new one or not. I should rephrase what I meant by "not running" directx 10. You'll be able to run it perse, but it won't look like those images from the url unless you have one of the new vid cards that are coming out now

My vid card was top of the line last year, but it won't be able to look like those images. I'm hoping it'll come close though, lol.
