![]() ![]() ![]() | Continuing Education..... Well as bad as this post may sound I think I have gotten dumber in the last two years, reasons why: *Decided to delete 3 of them just not right for these boards* I hung around with pretty much brain dead idiots I haven't read a book in about 4 years I haven't been near a school in about 5. I am watching TV or playing on the computer about 10 hours of each day. Now most of you know why I am getting dumber. But I ALWAYS was the smart one. I knew the answers to almost anything in school and school all together was very boring for me, the only thing I liked about school was machine and wood shop. And it looks like I am going to be going into a job that doesn't take a whole lot of book smarts except for basic math. So basically how do I advert this? Does anyone know any good authors? I might pick up a few books sometime. Does anyone know any good sites with short stories? And to those of you who have had to learn other languages, any of you know a good site that can help? Anyone know a good site to help on spelling and grammar? LOL as you may have seen both of those are not my strongest suit. I just figured a spellchecker would be there most of the time. I use to write a lot, RP stories, concept ideas and actually I wrote a novel(I admit it wasn't very good) which was wiped out when my computer crashed a year ago. I am just feeling that I am getting behind on the times. I can tell anyone also anything about UO. But I have trouble naming 5 authors. Not planning to go back to school for another year or two and when I do it will be for real estate courses. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I am feeling that I have just lost my way. Also anyone know any good Punk Bands? ![]() There are no stupid questions......only stupid people! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... If you want a site with short stories www.writing.com has tonnes of them, and if you can find the stuff (navigation on that site isn't great) there are quite a few articles with tips on spelling/grammar too. About the authors, it really depends what kind of stuff you read. What genre did you want? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... Jean M Auel, website here, not only is an amazing writer but all of her work is researched. The prehistoric novel series she has written was written by someone who has actually held the artifacts and seen the drawings of which she speaks. Her novels take years to complete because of all the time she spends researching. ![]() ![]() Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... Fiction preferrably. I do like Fantasy, I am kinda trying to steer clear of political type of novels. I did like Mary Stewerts(I think I spelt the last name wrong) writtings back in High School. Those types of stories do interest me. But I use to read almost anything, so basically any fiction is good. I also read Jaws.....that was actually one of the best novels I have ever read, since I had seen the move about 7 times prior to reading it. I will check out Jean Auel, it looks interesting Thanks Flutter. Just spent 10 minutes on the writting site. Was kinda hard to navigate. ![]() There are no stupid questions......only stupid people! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... My favorite fantasy author is Robert Newcomb (www.robertnewcomb.com). If you want something shorter, try this site: www.faelynrose.com This is a UO player (actually I think ex-UO player) who's been writing a story. She posts a chapter ever once and a while..it's a good quick read. She's a great writer. Do you have hobbies? If you want to get into reading, you can always pick up stuff about things you like. For example, I buy Graphic design magazines every once and a while and spend a couple weeks reading them or doing projects from them. Even just picking up a magazine can be educational, if that's what you are looking for. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... Pffft , reading doesn't make you smarter, look at the average english teacher... low pay, overly moody. But I did find a book that was kinda interesting called Pirates and outlaws of Canada. Kinda cool how many pirates made fame and fortune off the east coast. Also teaches that crime does pay, and that a majority of the rich and politicians of the world came from criminal ancestry. So if you got a boat and are thinking of being a pirate, Ill join!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Continuing Education..... if your after fantasy go out and get a copy of magician (raymon e feist) and read it, you'll probably be hooked to follow that i'ld say go and get all his series, they really are great reads. After that, you should try Terry Goodkind with the sword of truth series, robert jordan as well is ok, but nothing special. Currently im reading David edding's books ![]() ![]() ![]() |
