Ceramics class anyone?

In High School I took a ceramics class. We used to keep garbage cans of clay in water in a unused bathroom (because of the stink!). I can not remember what the clay is called when its in the water... I want to say slop because thats what it reminds me of, but there is a technical term. Does anyone know?

You mean the clay that you might use as a binder or such? Slurry maybe?

It was the actual clay we used to make things. You had to fish it out of the bottom of a garbage can. The smell was horrible and you stunk all day in school (good thing it was last period for me!)

I've never done ceramics, so maybe it was different. We just called the clay by whatever type it was: longhorn, raku, etc.

If you live by an art school or jr college, see if they have kilns you can rent. That's what I do now. Usually I can rent a kiln for about $30 a day or so, depending on what kind of sculpture I am making.

In ceramics, slip is a aqueous suspension of raw materials.

I did some ceramics briefly back in the late '80's, and slip was the term used for the grey liquid glop that became ceramics.

Yes! it is slip. I took ceramics in college.

For some reason I think we had another word for it. Maybe because of the smell
