![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | *bounces* yay rocks! okn i'll get pictures of them tomorrow but anyway my rock samples arrived! i ordered a sample of pumice.. ie the light frothy volcanic glass which is most well known from the pompeii eruption. Oak Obsidian, which is the black glass-rock with orange veins through it.. im not sure how this forms but i thought it was cool. Obsidian (yea im semi-goth so this stuff was the first on my list) i love this rock, im not quite sure why i think if i had to be any form of rock i'ld be obsidian, possibly snowflake obsidian (the black one with the white crystals (i think they are quarts) in it). Last of all Scoriae from Iceland, its kinda like black pumpce but it isnt an ignious rock its a pyroclastic one.. ok ive done nothing about this yet but anyway i thought it was cool. (oh for those of you who dont know im doing a geophysics degree at Southampton so i get to do lots of geology this year hence the rocks.. ok i dont have to have my own samples but i had a small collection already so yea. I currently have three samples of different types of obsidian i have some mahogany obsidian as well) ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: *bounces* yay rocks! hmm Kimmeridge.. not recently, i came down here somewhere ages ago and picked up a few bits of rocks packed with little fossils. Were going to tenby in umm 3 weeks to look at rocks there and there is supposed to be fossils there (yay?) im more of an ignious rock-person though the fossils which formed then got dissolved away (because their shells are like aragonite or calcite or something) then crystals formed in their places are extremly cool. oh yea i also have a geoite (one of the rocks with the pretty colours and the quarts inside of it. ^.^ ![]() ![]() |
