Blah to viruses

Well, I finally got my computer back. First it caught a nasty little virus. Then the woman working on it caught a nasty little virus too! Of course her's was of the intestinal kind. So it took me about a week to get my computer back from the shop.

BTW, there is no way I am going thru almost 2000 new posts! lol

Man, first the bird flu, now a computer borne virus that spreads through humans... imagine the price of pepto once this thing hits mainstream.

Re: Blah to viruses

I got a Trojan on my pc 22nd April.I found it on this list and successfully removed it.It was the Trojan.Zlob.K one.

Re: Blah to viruses

I've had three in quarantine since around Christmas.... Symantecs still says it can't do them... I think they must be worms .. but haven't really checked. Son usually handles all that and they are in quaranting... netsky32 is one of them I think that's the right name.. Morons who make those need to have a few viri stuck in places they can't get to!

Glad to see you back Adri.

Snowy ,if you are using Widows XP,is your son disabling System restore before trying to remove them. I did now know about needing to do this until after three returns of the trojan to my system.
Once I did this it has not returned *fingers crossed*

I also found this for yoiu,l It hopefully will help *smiles*

Removal using the W32.Netsky@mm Removal Tool
Symantec Security Response has developed a removal tool to clean the infections of W32.Netsky.D@mm. This is the easiest way to remove this threat and should be tried first.

Manual Removal
The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
Update the virus definitions.
Restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mode.
Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as W32.Netsky.D@mm.
Delete the value that was added to the registry.

For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. Disabling System Restore (Windows Me/XP)
If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

Re: Blah to viruses

Thanks. I kinda thought that was what I should do. Son doesn't live here anymore.. got married.. moved off... go figure... LOL.. but he checks computer for me when he visits, just doesn't always have time to get thorough and we KNOW it's in quarantine. We only hear of it when Symantecs updates and says maybe now it can remove it. I will go try the worm remover Thanks bunches for the write up too I will copy it down and go from there.
