does anyone have any suggestions for getting a new job that pays around 16/hour for an entry lvl position??

I'm kinda in a situation where I need to get out of my current job asap... the problem is, I'm working for the family business and I've been elevated to a position (mostly out of necessity) that I'm not entirely qualified for. So, getting a job in the same field is pretty much out of the question. besides that, I've never really liked this line of working anyway (land surveying)..

honestly I'm not picky about the type of work I'm doing.. but most if not all entry lvl positions I've seen pay like 11/hour, which is a problem as me and the wife have a house payment to make. I can afford to take a cut, just not a huge cut. I'm also looking into getting as second job to offset the loss....

anyway.. any suggestions or experiences would be great thanks

actually happiness isn't the main prioritiy.. its a conflict of interest for me to continue working there now that my brother is coming back tomorrow... but thats a long story..

geez that is a tough one ...
only thoughts the ol' braincell had was to check with your local county to see what they are hiring for.
Check with other government agencies like state and federal .. the pay might not be as high but the benefits are good.
Maybe check with utility and cable type companies as well.

you could always go city union. depending on which ciity you live in, they always hire and pay pretty well. my great uncle is the pres of the chicago union, so I am set up if I decide to get out of the Airforce, and make pretty good money to boot. look into it. its worth a try

What about going to school or whatever to take a few quick courses and get qualified for what you do now? Something so you can get another job, then take the pressure off until you can find a good job you enjoy? Most junior colleges offer a crash course option, and with your experience you should be able to get something hopefully. Or, maybe you can go into equipment sales. You will know what you are talking about and hopefully get a commission along with a paycheck.

The best info I can give you is check you local hospital. Even File Room Clerks can get around 15-16 an hour to start at bigger hospitals...

There are other jobs with a bit more patient care aspect (possibly washing bums) that do pay really well and trust me, you get used to it...

Some construction companies have a really good starting wage. Especially if you get in with one that is tied with the Union.

Work for the taxpayers. I do air conditioning repair and I have worked for the County and now the school district. Average starting pay here in Dallas is $13.00. They have every kind of job you can think of. Office clerks, maintenance, custodial (we got a LOT of $20 custodians). Depending on your skills the municipalities can offer a lot of good jobs. (not a lot of advancement but that has never been a concern for me)
