Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

RMS what’s wrong with Trisnic? I don’t mind you chiming in at all! My family has had a number of different pets, including rats; maybe we can get some help with that too.

Her name is Ms. Baby Wrinkles – although I’ve gotten a lot of flack from my room mate because of it, he calls her Betty. She is sister to Mr. Poogly & Baxter my two cats

Wenchy - She growled at me when I put the E Collar on, she's very timid and I think it spooked her so I took it off & never tried again. I've tried tying her ears down with a sock around the head, socks on the paws, nothing works to keep her from scratching. I'm sure its driving her bonkers! As for the antibiotics, it is a really strong dose; I hope it knocks this staph infection right out. I guess the worst part is she’s just gotten so “bad” so quick. We religiously would go to the vets every other week for over 2 years (I have a terrific vet who doesn’t rob my bank account) then I see this specialist and she’s not eating, not playing, just laying around Thank you everyone for your help, it makes me feel a lot better!

Now i’m off to go buy some pill pockets so she’ll take her pills better!

Those are some cute names! Least I can put her name with the picture Anyway Trinsic his head is tilting he never looks straight no more. It looks like he is constantly looking at me curiously but the other rats keep picking on him because he looks diffrent because of his head tilting and his eye on the way he tilts his head is not as open.

So I got him with me in his own cage giving him as much love possible and he is enjoying it. Still eats food well and gets water. He just topples over ALOT so I have to hold him up while he is eatting and drinking.

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

*gets this picture of a dog with socks on her ears* hehehe....that sounds funny! My current retriever's like that, growls a lot about nothing and a big wussie underneath. Typical male really!

Actually, just thinking about it, a hooded dog coat or small human version if you could get one with a drawstring round the head You could try a sneaky sewing job and attach it to a doggy head collar to keep it from falling back. I've no idea if that would work.

Rats are one pet I've never kept, bunnies, gerbils and guinea pigs but not rats heh. But hey, fire away and maybe one of us can help

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

Hehe knew I'd get caught there.... sowwy!

RMS - see if you can have a look at your rat's ears. I just did a google and there's something called head tilt (original name!) that can be due to ear infection. If you scroll down bottom of this page you'll find a bit more info. I don't have any experience with rats but it sounds like what you describe.

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

RMS - We had rabbit that had simular symptoms. She had a inner ear infection.

Wenchy - We had 2 pet rats but they multiplied like crazy. I hope this doesn't offend anyone but the babies were feed to our Nile Monitor. R.I.P. After we terrorized my mother a few times with the rats and lizard for that matter, we had to get rid of them

Ly-Las - teeheee *huggles*

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

Okay good nothing "life threatening" that was mostly what I was afraid of this still needs to be taken care of. I hope it is an inner infection anyway and not a stroke. We will soon see what it will be, he is just lazying around my lap right now. Seems content but I am sure he is hurting...

Thanks all! Do you think Sweet Oil will help soothe his ears until the day of his appointment?

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

It's too late I already saw it

I still remember asking Ly what do monitors eat?

"Anything that gets in their way."

I dunno, I always wished dinosaurs didn't go extinct so I could have a pet draggy, think that's why I like big lizards

Re: Any Vets or Dr's here?

Ducky (our monitor) was nasty as cat poop! He bit, shot moldy poop out at people! Once he got loose in my sisters car , I wouldn't put my feet on the floor! It took us a week to get him out and we had to pull her dashboard out to get him. We used to have a little leash for him so we could let him swim in our bathtub, one day my sister got a baby pool and he was too fast, he ran into a neighbors yard and a dog bit him We had to have the vet put him down because they're was nothing they could do My sister wanted to get him stuff and he was in our freezer for like 3 years hiddin in a pizza box and my mom found it! totally freaked out!
