Deim my old computer was almost as bad as yours is with desktop items now ^.^ i run 1280 x800 on my computer and get enough space for everything not to be ontop of the playscreen.. ^.^ anyway...  those guys are my fave band i just wish they would come over here and do a tour >.< the curse of knowing americans!  |

If you set it at 'play full screen' option, it is large enough to play nicely, but I don't like having the login screen so huge, so I compromise and run at 1152 x 864. I get the space and a larger play area. My monitor is a year old 19 inch CRT. I click the ingame option for 1024 x 768 and the one for 800 x 600, which seems to make it a nice playing size and leaves good enough border to place spells and other icons. I am not terribly good with settings, so I just messed around until it looked pretty good. If anyone has comments on the efficiency or a better plan, I am fine to try it  I did try at higher resolution, but when it is any higher, I have to click 'play full screen' because I don't like how small the play screen area is, and that makes the login huge.. which I hate... LOL.. I know.. I am picky. I am partial to darkish desktops so the icons placed on it don't show a 'box' around them.
