Macros

Hello,

I have a quick question. I have been playing for nearly 10 years, however I have never pvp'd on a mage/necro. I was wondering if anyone can tell me thier basic template regarding thier macros. How you bind the key's etc. What spells are a must, how i should group them and all. Any help would be good.

Re: Macros

I hope this helps. I copied it from my guild website. I hope you don't mind Trixie.

Setting up UO Assist Macros

I'm putting this together at the request of some of the members. This isn't necessarily the right way, only way or best way to do it. This is just based on my personal experience and what I've found to work for me. If you know of another way to do something and would like to add your input please do so

Setting up Target Self and Last Target

I'm assuming everyone has a mouse with a scroll wheel on it. If not, I'm sure you can buy one fairly cheap.

1. Go to UO Assist, Go to the Keys Tab and locate Target Self in the list.
2. Click in the box to assign it a hot key.
3. Scroll your mouse wheel towards you. It should now say something like "Mouse DWN" or something like that.
4. Find Last Target in the list, repeat the procedure except scroll your mouse wheel away from you.

Now you have a Target Self and Last Target Macro set up. So, when you want to cure yourself. You press your cure macro button then scroll your mouse wheel towards you to cure. No more clickly clickly on your health bar!

I just want to say that I know some people like using the Spell que. From what I know about it, it allows you to cast a spell and que it to target yourself or your last target. As long as your timing is good, you can basically cast and target the instant the spell is ready. I personally can't stand that feature, but if someone else wants to make a guide on how to do it feel free to do so.

Casting Spells

First pick the spells you want to set up. These are the "must have" spells IMO:
Heal
Greater heal
Cure
Poison
Lightning
Fireball
Explosion
E Bolt
Flame Strike

Other ones that I would suggest you have set up are:
Harm
Mind Blast
Magic Arrow
Curse
Weaken
Teleport
Fields (minus fire field)

For Necro:
Pain Strike
Strangle
Corpse Skin
Evil Omen
Wither

1. Pull the spells out of your spellbook that you want to set up macro's for.
2. Go to the Macro's tab and click #1.
3. Click Record and begin casting the spell in UO (don't target anything when the cursor appears)
4. Go back to UOA and click Stop.
5. Repeat this procedure for all the spells you want to set macros for.
6. Go to the Keys Tab and find Play Macro 1-16.
7. Click on Play Macro 1, click in the hotkey area and press the key you want to assign it too.

I personally use F1-F12 for my spells, if you have a full keyboard you might want to try using the Number Pad.

Don't forget to set up a meditation button too! To do that repeat the same procedure, but instead of pulling the spell out of your book, you have to pull it out of the skill menu by dragging it. It should turn into an icon on your screen similar to the spell buttons.

Now you should be able to press a button to cast heal then scroll your mouse wheel to target yourself. Practice the timing of the spell by healing or curing yourself over and over, you should be able to do it fairly quick.

Other Useful Macros

Dress:
Put on your entire suit, don't put on anything you don't have blessed or insured because it will mess up the dress macro if you try to equip something you don't have on your body.

1. Go to the Dress tab.
2. Click on "Save what is currently being worn"
3. Go to the Keys tab, and assign Dress to a key.

Arm:
This will equip anything that's in your hands such as spellbooks, shield, weps, ect.

1. Go to Arm tab.
2. Click on the box for right hand item and left hand item.
3. Go to Keys tab and assign it to something.

Mount your pet/ethy after dismount:

1. Get off your ethy or mount.
2. Go to macro and click record on a empty one.
3. Double click your Ethy statue or double click your pet.
4. Click Stop, and assign it to a key.

Pots:
There are drink cure, heal, refresh and other pots in the keys tab of UO Assist.

Trap Boxes.
1. Make a new macro
2. Record yourself opening a traped box.
3. Click stop and right click on "use item" to change it to "use item type".

Re: Macros

I use my F keys too.
F1-F4 are harmful spells.
F5-F8 are beneficial spells.
F9-F12 are skill or speaking macros.

For smaller spells I cast often, I use ctrl+number.

If you are using UOAssist just make sure your macros are not conflicting with the preset macros in it.

Re: Macros

And the problem with that is that there are 12 F keys and according to Merc's post, at least 21 spells and 9 actions which you'll need to be casting on a regular basis, all of which needing a key.

Which is probably why every time I talk to a PvPer in game they repeatedly cast spells while typing.

Personally, I use a lot of <control> keys while fighting, but it's terribly inefficient. For example, my taming macros are control-r, control-f, control-d, control-s (all using my left hand only). I have these macros on all my characters (hiryu for my samurai and ABC, ogre lord for my weaver-mage, bake kitsune for my necro-tamer-mage, and tamed pets for my tamer.

To each their own. When you find a combination which works for you, don't let anyone convince you to change the key-strokes that you use.

Re: Macros

I don't use the keyboard for my macro. I use the beklin 52n game pad, which you can program over 50 plus marcos.

This is the newer one.

Re: Macros

I personally use the Logitech G11 keyboard... has 18 macro keys on the left side, and three toggles for them, for a total of 54 macro keys. Add the F keys, and you have 66 spells/actions/phrases/etc all within a keystroke. Costs about $65.00 these days at stores like Target or Walmart.
