I read in the mage pvp template thread that there is a benefit to being a human mage because of a naturally increased MR (mana regeneration?) I did not remember reading anything about that with the release of Mondains legacy and looked it up on uo.com and found that humans regenerate HP's faster but thats about it. what are the advantages/disadvantages of playing a mage with either races?

You get 20 meditation and 20 focus for free as a human.

As a detriment, you get to wear less armour types (elves get a far larger selection) and you lose 5 off your max energy resists.


Oh, and elves are slightly harder to find using tracking/reveal hidden.

You will also get a slight hit point advantage as a human, as well as the JOAT. However, I would argue that the 20 med from being human is a waste, since a mage is going to have Med as a skill anyway, and the minute the med on the char exceeds 20, the med JOAT is lost anyway. You would still get the 1 MR from the 20 focus on the human, as well as 2 stamina regen from same, but I think that is more than offset by the +20 total mana for the elf. All of my mages or mage type characters are elf, whereas all of my dexxers are human.

I've got a dexxer elf, elf mage, human crafter (for packhorse), human tamer, and human stealther.

Right now I still prefer elves for armour selection. However, it comes down to personal choice more than anything I believe. Not to mention you can change races in like 20 minutes.

i was a human mage for 8 years and recently became an elf - let me say i like being an elf now better - im not really noticing any difference - other then not having to bother with worrying about nightsight. lol

If you want to wear a hat as a elf.. just polymorph into a human

When stratics actually worked they had a list in I think the murderer forum with a whole list on what you get from the 20 in each skill.

How do u return to human??? from elf then? just reverse the process? RAA hasnt made any Elf to Human quests for a while.

There is a quest line to go from elf to human. It starts with Paidric (?) who is on the bridge in Serps, I believe. It doesn't take long at all to do, about 20-30 minutes.

The single greatest advantage to being an elf is you'll reveal stealthing players much more frequently when they try to steal from you.

As the person doing the stealing, I generally avoid walking past elves whenever possible.
