Arena Style PvP

In my opinion, the days of 1 vs 1 pvp are over. PvP has evolved into gangland style warfare, with drivebys and gankings. Its either join my gang and control our turf or be a victim.

I would like to see an arena where rules of engagement can be controled. Issues such as Artifacts, Potions, and etc can be nulled by the click of a gump box. A place where you can find 1 vs 1 pvp without interruptions from others. A place where honor and respect can once again be found. Each Victory gives you points to purchase rewards from an arena rewards lists. Where each victory ranks you, and each loss lowers your ranking and costs you gold. Even "Reds" and "Blues" can battle one and another. Bystanders can watch and cheer for their respective sides. This place could be used by a GM to hold and run PvP events. Most of all, this place would have to be targeted for individuals running illegal third party software to insure a balanced playfield.

I think that would be awesome Maddux, and hell we should have the jhelom arena for a reason. They could even hold it in Tram for all the peeps who are afraid of red names.

My guild and I have been doing this for years, but it's always only guild involved because there are tons of lamers out there who would ruin it. If you have a 18x18 you can make an arena on the roof of your house, that's what most people do. In terms of doing it elsewhere, good luck, it's probably not gonna work cause you can't enforce anything. You can try to get a GM involved with this, but odds are not not in favor of any GM supporting this due to time constraints.

edit :My one bud had a 18x18 arena with stadium seating. Best arena I've ever seen but he gave it away. You can use a tower as well, that's what we do currently, but talks are in the works of moving it to one of our castle roofs with the invention of ladders.

I would like to see EA/OSI have the arena that could meet the specifications so Arena Style PvP could be done on a shard wide level instead of small groups. Small groups or a few guilds does not cover the broad spectrum of the player base who PvP on a shard. Player ran Arena Events do not rank fighters. Talk is cheap when compared to ranking (ie: Guildwars & WoW). We know they have the technology on the drawing board from UOX, its just a matter of implementation. Perhaps UOKR will allow them to get it off the ground level. If its implemented by EA/OSI the GM's have no choice but to use the Arena, so it would not appear that a GM is favoring anyone or group by using a player Arena. Gumps controlling fight rules and winning conditions are a good step towards insuring an even playing field.

Exactly, and to an extent, they could make it so you don't even need a GM there. With the right ranking structure it could automatically match up equal opponents (unless otherwise stated by a player entering the arena that they will accept a fight from someone higher/lower ranked).

One of the best ideas I have heard of to bring back PvP. Ranking system is interesting and should be easy enough especially if they are ranked insideof an arena. Would the arena be in Fel? I assume so, and would blues be afraid to go there afraid of being ganked outside the arena? Location and getting killed outside the arena would be a key factor in making it successful because you want people to watch as well as fight. Maybe a moongate location saying arena would be best. Send you to a room/are where anyone can go and only fighting in the arena can take place.

Now if this goes up I have to figure a way to have betting then I can be rich....ummm and a small modest fee will be paid to Maddux so I may carry on my business alive.......

I'm sure they would take that into account. *thinks of past blunders* Hmm, well, atleast you would think they would.

But that wouldn't really be too much of a problem if they create it in an instanced area accessible from Tram or Fel.

I don't like it. I'm all too familiar with this.

In my opinion it turns PvP into a duel or (something unkind).

If you would like to set a duel, there are many areas around to accomodate.

PvP has evolved into People versus Person. Even if it starts out 1 vs 1 in a duel, there is always a high probability someone's friends or guildmates would come and make the situation unfair and unplesant. A EA/OSI Arena would provide that fair and balanced playfield.

Myself and a few others would like to see the return of the Duelist. The only method UO had in the past to rank was by implementing the bounty system which just tracked murders. A ranking system based on battles fought and won in an Arena is alot more honorable. Players could gather a following and even if you don't pvp you could go cheer for your favorites.
